We only get 2 (if we're lucky) 30 minute naps as well, and it's always a fight for me. DS is almost 10 months and has been a crappy napper since around 6-7m. I thought it was teething related, but it never went away (and he has 4 teeth now).

For whatever reason, he naps GREAT for daddy, and ok for grandma, but TERRIBLY for me. I wish I had a solution for you, but I can sympathize instead!

@sslm: ay yi yi! So sorry girl! I remember the crap naps all too well. I'm obviously no expert, but I think allowing her to learn to self soothe will be so helpful to your sanity! Sadie learning how to put herself to sleep (or put herself back to sleep - middle of the night or after transfer) changed everything!

@sslm: Yikes. Honestly, if I were you, I would stop nursing to sleep all together. You say it "works" for the first nap... but a 30 minute nap isn't working to me! We used no cry sleep solution to stop rocking to sleep and they talk a lot about nursing. Not sure if that's helpful, or if you just wanted to vent but I'm sorry! That is awful!

@hilsy85: thanks. This was day 4 of this behavior... I'm going to wait a few days and then reevaluate. Maybe her teeth will finally poke through and all will be better. Fingers crossed!

@sslm: afternoon naps are usually harder for most babies bc they're more wound up/not as tired (in my experience anyway!). You can try waiting it out and if it doesn't improve maybe try some nap training. My lo will have days like that, and then the next he's back to easily staying asleep when I transfer him.

@sslm: for n aps? This time she really never got worked up about it. The fussing period has just gotten shorter. We tried it a couple of weeks ago though and it was a fail. I think it's because she is used to falling asleep at night now, so it made it easier for her. I would say it was really a day of unpleasant crying before nap, but the bad crying didn't last long.

Staying asleep for at least a hour is still a work in progress.

@Revel: we I'd CIO. I did get the no cry sleep solution, but CIO ended up working better for us. It was only bad for one night so I think it just worked better for her personality and she was ready. The pupd and shushing or patting only got her more worked up and kept her up longer. We did bedtime a few weeks ago and just did the same thing for naps this weekend.

I still nurse to sleep for motn wake ups, but if she wakes up in the transfer she will usually just fuss for 5-15 minutes and fall asleep- which is less time than I was spending rocking her back to sleep before.

@sslm: We've been dealing with this for quite a while. Bedtime is a breeze, morning nap in the crib is possible, but it is impossible to get LO in the crib for the second nap. LO is 9 months and it happened for the first time that I can remember this weekend. I think it's because she's more mobile now and tiring herself out more. I hope you find something that works for you soon!

@Foodnerd81: @sslm: I'm currently having a terrible time at bedtime with transferring my six month old LO to the crib after nursing to sleep, but she'll be fine for some naps and MOTN wake ups. Maybe it only bothers them sometimes? Sorry you are having these nap struggles @sslm:.

Not to threadjack, but @Foodnerd81:, how did you stop nursing to sleep? I'm going to be trying some of the No Cry Sleep Solution suggestions.

@Foodnerd81: was she doing that all the time? I find it odd that her morning nap and bedtime are fine, I transfer her no problem , but the afternoon nap has become challenging.

I had to stop nursing to sleep for naps and bedtime, but before that, for the late afternoon nap I did end up just holding her in her darkened bedroom the whole time, otherwise se just wouldn't sleep. We had to stop the nursing to sleep bc she was waking up and freaking out half the time when I transferred her. She's 4 months.

@mrsjyw: that gives me hope! I'm pretty sure her top front teeth are on their way out bc she has a couple large bumps there. I hope that's what's causing this and that they come out soon!!!!

But joke's on me because they have!!!

I had accepted the short naps (she takes two 30 min naps). Now though, she's having a rough time going for that second nap. She passes out while nursing, but when I go to lay her in her crib she freaks the f out!!!!

I know people will probably say I need to stop nursing her down, but this works for the morning nap, and nighttime, so what is it about the afternoon nap???

Ugh. I'm at my wits end. I've resorted to holding her for that second nap.

She's 7.5 months. She cannot possibly only need one nap.

Could this be teething related???
