DS is 5 months and he only eats from one side also. If he does take from the second side, it's only a nibble here and there. I hate the engorged feeling so I always pump afterwards, unless he nibbles enough to take the edge off then I just let it be. If you slowly cut back on the pumping time, your body will adjust to the new demand.

My lo still only feeds on one side per session at almost 5 months. Never had problems with it. I would do what others have said and slowly reduce the amount of time you pump.

My LO only ate from one side from the beginning and I haven't pumped ever because of that. I think my body just adapted to it. We are almost at 5 months and I've never had a clogged duct or anything.

My DD generally only eats from one side except first thing in the morning and her bedtime feeding. I've never pumped the other side (and did speak with a lactation consultant multiple times). Does she always go three hours between feedings? It's all supply and demand so your body would produce just enough to support that.

For the first few weeks, LO only ate from one side at a time every 3hrs. I just alternated each time and didn't suffer with mastitis or clogged ducts. I did feel a little engorged, but it soon settled down.

I would slowly cut back the amount of time you pump on the other side by like a minute or two per session per day until you can eliminate it. My son block fed from only one side. He was an efficient eater and ate in only about 10 minutes as well but always gained well. Even now at 15 months he still only nurses on one side per session. I've never had any trouble with mastitis or plugged ducts thankfully.

So a little backstory, DD is 2 weeks old and when she was first born, she wasn't really interested in eating. It was a fight to get her to wake up to nurse. When my milk came in and she started eating better, she would nurse quickly in 10 minutes or less and only on one side. We were worried about weight gain and I talked to a LC about her eating. The LC said that I really needed to be nursing or pumping for 10 minutes on each side every 3 hours. Thus, we started the routine of nursing on one side and pumping the other. DD had a weight check and is gaining well, but still only eating on one side and now I have the routine and supply to keep up with pumping on the opposite side every time she eats. Yesterday we froze 32 ounces just from the previous 48 hours! I like having the stash, BUT it is a lot to keep up with pumping and watching DD and DS on my own during the day.

What should I do now? How can I wean from pumping without getting mastitis? What would you do!?!
