Totally normal behaviour! I was worried in the beginning that I would somehow not do it right and would end up with a kid that only ate chicken nuggets dipped in ketchup. I've learned to relax a lot about eating, he eats to his appetite and yes, he will eat something on Monday and hate it on Tuesday. There's no telling what will happen from week to week.

I also keep staples of things I know he will eat, such as yogurt, applesauce, certain cheeses, breads, pasta, etc. available so in case he's not eating, I can offer him something else. Food is the only thing littles can control, so don't stress! I know it's easier said than done!

Ugh, my LO used to do the same. I just learned to feed him what he was willing to eat. It took a while, but he's actually turned into a great eater. What helped a lot also was just giving him more of what we were eating and less purees, he enjoyed food so much more when I did that. I thought he would never eat solids and now there's almost nothing he won't eat. He still gets into moods where he won't eat something, even if he loved it the previous day, but I just offer him something else and he's fine.

I second the idea of mixing something new in with something they already like.

Solids are SO FRUSTRATING!!! I feel like pulling my hair out some days. DS loves greek yogurt and a dish my stepmom fed him, which is little circle pasta noodles with white beans, diced carrots, peas and a bit of pasta sauce. I make it in bulk and freeze it in a silicone muffin tray, then toss them into ziplock bags. DS loves that meal and will eat it every day.

He used to like, but now refuses: applesauce, corn, mashed potatoes, eggs, toast, pb&j "bites", mac n cheese, meatballs, and green beans.

He does eat much better at day care and will usually eat whatever she offers him, so I worry less at home. I keep puree pouches on hand for when we are out and about (he still thinks they are "cool") and I don't worry too much anymore if he eats the same thing over and over.

Also, my pediatrician said that spices were okay at 6 mos. He basically said DS could have anything except peanuts, milk and honey after 6 mos and at 1 year the only thing he can't have is honey. I think he said to wait until after 2 years.

We went through this for the first time last week (8.5 months). I think a couple of things were in play in our case.

1) teething, LO wasn't taking the bottle as well either.
2) force feeding, she was getting a bottle later in the day at daycare and then eating her dinner at her usually time. She might not have been hungry and I was forcing the issue.
3) the mystery that is developing taste buds!

What I'm doing differently is being more mindful of when she last ate and not trying to force a 6pm dinner with the same amount of food every day. Also, I make sure her first couple of spoonfuls are really small. This gives her just a taste to figure out what we are eating and if she's interested. She seems to get really eager after these small tastes and eat vigorously.

We never stuck to a single food for a whole week. We did three meals/days (she was only getting one meal a day when we introduced all the fruits/veggies).

Are you doing three meals a day x 7 days of the same food? I wonder if that duration has anything to do with the change in food and her gagging.

I think that it helps to think of babies as little humans, in that they are just like us: sometimes you feel like green beans and sometimes you don't! Furthermore, eating the same thing over and over gets kind of boring (or at least it does to me) so I think it helps to have a variety of foods to offer at each meal time.

I wouldn't try to understand it! Just work on offering a wide variety of foods all the time and they will eat what they want. They are going to be picky for quite some time so try not to stress.

My son still does this now and he's 2 years old! He'll LOVE mangoes one week (can't get enough) and then the next week he doesn't want them. But he'll all of a sudden love kiwis but he didn't care for them before. Kids are a big mystery. You just have to keep introducing them to the same foods, even if they don't like it one particular day/week because I swear, their tastes buds change all the time!

My daughter keeps changing her mind too and she'll change it within the day. As long as you find something for them to eat (with some variety) I wouldn't worry too much! Babies are a mystery. :)

No suggestions.. LO is 13 months old and is the same way. She has a few foods that she's consistently loved since the beginning of time (solids) so I give her those + introduce something new.
I wouldn't force food on your LO. It's frustrating, but keep trying it and try new stuff to see if she'll take it.

What if you mix foods? Like if your LO loved sweet potatoes, maybe add something to it instead of giving them something completely different. I don't know, like I said it's pretty much just a guessing game for what they'll like one day to the next, but it's worth a try!

I don't have a suggestion either. I just wanted to echo @artbee: about solids being hard! The feeding schedule in our house is all over the place and the thought of introducing spices makes me nervous. Hope you have better luck with mixing old & new foods! :)

Baby A has been amazing with solids. She is willing to try new foods and textures, but once we introduce new foods she gags on the foods that was so excited about just a week earlier! for example, yesterday we introduced sweet potato and today I tried feeding her green beans (which we introduced last week and she loved) and she gagged and threw them up. I don't understand and it's so frustrating!

Suggestions?
