Thanks everyone! We ended up seeing a LC yesterday who said we could go up to 4 hrs if she just fell asleep. I think she will sleep better on our new plan too so hopefully it will all work out!

Unless her weight is just very low, I'd skip it. You know her best!

If you don't want to wake her then don't. Trust your gut mama. She's gaining ok now and there is nothing wrong with supplementing.

I would let the baby sleep and pump instead, since you're up anyway. 45 mins is not a long enough rest for either of you.

Another idea to help with supply is pumping if your LO is sleeping extended hours.

@junebugmama: I beleive this is how I lost my supply.

My supply was always low, but LO started STTN at 10w old and boom- lost my supply.

So, I'd wake her and feed her at every chance I got.
Then again---once they get back to their birth weight and plus some, you're good to go. You don't have to wake them to feed anymore.

She doesn't need to wake, but your supply needs her to eat every 3 hours. So if you want to cut out supplementing you needt to keep her on schedule.

I do agree with @junebugmama: though, if you're looking to stop supplementing then I would wake her, otherwise you're body won't start producing more.

How's her weight? If she isn't a peanut, then I'd suggest letting her sleep. LO weighed 4.5 lbs at birth and I would wake him to feed him.

If you're supplementing and don't want to, then you need to wake her up in order to increase your supply, otherwise your body will decrease not increase, unless you pump instead.

ditto. i would let her sleep unless there was a serious medical issue. our ped advised us at the beginning to feed every 3 hours and i regret waking LO up for those feedings. sometimes i couldn't even wake him up anyway.

How's her weight doing? I know you're supposed to start the clock from when they start eating, but I always did it from when she stopped and never had any issues with M's weight or my supply.

I know I am supposed to be feeding LO every 3 hours, but it kills me to wake her up right after she goes to sleep! She takes a long time to eat, and fights naps, so by the time I get her down, I should be waking her up to eat again. Case in point: She ate from 8:30-9:30 (40 min of nursing & then a bottle since we're supplementing) and then was awake until about 11. It's now 1145 & I know she should be back up by now & eating but I feel like newborns need their sleep! What to do?
