Have you tried changing his diaper standing up? I know it doesn't work if there is poop, but i do it for pee changes.

I feel your pain though. Baby has gotten better ever since i started pinning her down, and will just cry for a few seconds. I will usually do changes in front of the tv if i'm in a rush. I think the older they get, toy distractions aren't really option.

@FutureMrsMcK: i can't even hold his legs down - it's doesn't prevent the flipping....it used to.

I can empathize. I'm constantly having to grab and flip him back over. I usually have to hold his legs down--which makes me feel super crappy, but he's not easily distracted, and nothing else really works (except, like you, occasionally TV).

my LO is 9mo and nothing was working for us (distraction, pinning) so i bought a toy that he only gets while i am changing him and if he gets particularly feisty i will put both of my hands on him, look him right in the eye and very seriously say 'Graeme.' Sometimes I have to say it a few times but its working. Diaper changes are better!

Yes! Although things are actually getting a bit better. Sometimes singing a song with dd helps, I also have a toy basket right beside the changing pad that she can dig through. She also likes to "help" at times by holding the diaper or wipes or Vaseline tube. For clothing changes I am trying to get her involved naming body parts and playing peek a boo with her for the shirt, hands and feet. This works sometime, other times we still just fight!

*raises hand*. Distraction works for us sometimes. Sometimes I start a grunting/yelling contest to distract her. Clearly, I'm a model parent :)

I dread them too. Only mine is only two weeks old so she screams cause she hates being naked. You would think it was better then sitting in poop but she thinks it is worse.

oh yeah, been there. It DOES get easier. It comes and goes. I second the idea with the adult plastic cup. Right around that age, Liv was obsessed with making noise into it.

I've been using an adult plastic cup (the kind we use by the pool) and laugh into it and then give it to him. He laughs into it and usually keeps him busy long enough for me to change his diaper. I put it away with the wipes/diapers so it's a treat 'toy'. Ugh, I hope this lasts! The worst is after bath time - he has so much fun and then melts down when I put on the diaper, lotion, clothes :(

Ugh...me too! I find that letting him pick a toy to play with and singing songs helps.

We were recently on vacation where I had to apply sunscreen on him a few times a day. That and diaper changes - I don't know which was worse!

It actually does get easier. At least it did for me. LO is 20 months and she still does try to flip over and crawl away..... but she did get easier to distract. I have her book shelf right by her changing table so I'll grab a book for her, but of course she's very picky about what book she wants so that's always an issue. Or I'll sing to her. And of course she's picky about what song I'm singing.... I just always have to find the right thing :)

I have come to hate diaper changes and clothing changes. Over the past month they have gotten soooo difficult. T constantly flips and tries to stand and screams and thrashes when I try to restrain him. He's only 10.5 months and I know this is going to get worse. He's so frieking strong and I'm afriad he is going to get hurt when I try to pin him, because he is still able to flip! I try distraction and it works for 10 seconds before the flipping and thrashing start up again. The only thing that (sometimes) works is changing him in front of the TV.

Anyone else?
