We are just working on night weaning now. Not all at once, but just trying to drop one feeding at a time in anticipation of going out of town for a week in April. LO is 10 months and still nursing 3-4 times per night. We have started with just the first night feeding (usually around 1030PM). We said I would not feed him earlier than 12 midnight. The first night he was SO mad! The second night he only protested a little. 3rd night and on it hasn't been a problem at all!

Sorry to hear you are so sick :(

You poor things! I agree with @junebugmama: that it will (hopefully) be easier when she's older & ready!

When they are ready to be night weaned, it usually goes much smoother.

My guy was a boob monster, was nursing all through out the night, so in total still 8-10 per day at 15 months. I gave it a shot once and it was like what you described. I then tried again about a month later and it was pretty easy. He woke up crying but if I rubbed his back and sang to him, the crying would stop within minutes and he would go back to sleep. Within a week or so he stopped waking up.

...and if it's anything like last night, it's going to SUCK. I'm on a few medications where I need to wait at least six hours before breastfeeding (per the instructions of my midwife and pediatrician), and she wanted to eat right outside that six hour mark. We tried giving her a bottle. She screamed, arched, and refused it, then refused to be put down even after she was asleep. After 20 minutes, I gave in and gave her the boob, praying the entire time that I wasn't doing her any harm. She went back to sleep without a peep.

I'm scared of night weaning. Hopefully she'll drop the feedings on her own once we start solids next month.
