@Anagram: Thanks for the tips! I will double check everything, but I think it is set up correctly. I had a lot of nursing issues at first, so I pumped approximately half the time during the first eight weeks of my son's life.

I use the rounded pumpinpal flanges because the regular angled ones really hurt my nipples back in the day. Maybe I should try the angled ones again now that I am not suffering from sore nipples.

Oh and make sure the parts are 100% dry!

Check for tears in the little membranes, or see if any of the parts are loose or cracked. Also, make sure your flanges are tight to your breast---I used to always get the pumping bra between my breast and the flange, and then I didn't have a tight seal and it wouldn't pump.

@ElbieKay: hmmmm, that's annoying!! My medela pump was awesome. Maybe it's defective or one of the parts may be twisted. It's very technique sensitive.

I had the same issue wth my Medela pump that I bought (the freestyle). I EP and I started feeling like I wasn't emptying and was getting hard spots often. Ended up renting a hospital-grade and it has made all the difference. Very frustrating tho, considering our insurance didn't cover anything and the freestyle that we bought was really expensive..

My Medela worked amazing (and I rented a hospital-grade for the first two months). I actually couldn't tell the difference between the two. Maybe there's something wrong with it or the suction is broken or something?

Hmm that is odd. I have a medela through my insurance company and I always get the same amount as lo has gotten during her weighted feeds.

That stinks. I had a hygeia pump from my insurance and it was amazing! Have you had success with it before? I remember someone posting a pic and a few other bees saying that they didn't realize something was off on their pump til that photo!

I know I'm spoiled. My best friend gave me her hospital grade pump. She bought it years ago, and she is done with pumping. That is the pump I have used since the day I came home from the hospital. It is still not as good as my child at removing milk from my breast, but it's acceptable.

A month ago, I went back to work. So, I got a Medela pump through my insurance company. I keep the hospital grade pump at the office and use the insurance pump at home in a pinch.

IT DOESN'T WORK. I am sitting here hand expressing milk out of an engorged breast because after ten minutes I got half an ounce of fore milk and my breast is still rock hard. WTF???
