People always say "massage," but for me, it always took pressing on/around the spot as hard as I possibly could for a really long time. I think this would be hard to do while nursing, so maybe try pumping until you get it out? I wouldn't call until I had a high temp.

I agree with @hilsy85 Mastitis isn't fun. I completely ignored it until my fever was so bad that I was shaking and couldn't hold DS anymore (for fear of him shaking out of my arms). I would say that if it hasn't gone away in a reasonable amount of time, call the doctor. Thrush sucks, but Mastitis makes it hard to care for you LO.

Have you tried nursing while laying down? They also say completely emptying the breast helps, so have you pumped after nursing? I had one with my first, and I nursed a lot and then took a really good nap (my mom came over) and that made it go away.

@allison: I would call if it gets to be higher than 100...my fever was 99.4 one day, and that night/the next morning it shot up to 102. Luckily, I already had the antibiotics (had gotten them from the pedi that day, we happened to have an appt) so I didn't need to wait to speak to my doctor.

@hilsy85: Kellymom says you can have a low-grade fever with a plugged duct. So I had only planned to call if it was higher than 101.3? Good/bad idea? And I have done the dangle nursing. Didn't seem to help. I've been changing up the positions a lot, though. And yeah, done the massage and heat. They just won't budge!

If you get a fever again or feel achy, I would call your doctor..you definitely don't want to mess around with mastitis! Have you tried dangle nursing--literally dangling your boob over your LO? And warm showers, massages, etc--I'm sure you've tried that stuff.

In the same boob. I've had them for over 48 hours now. I'm doing everything I know to get rid of them but they're still there. I had fever 2 days ago/yesterday morning (low-grade), but haven't had any since then.

My question is, at what point should I be concerned enough to call my dr? I've got some redness but it's just a few spots (not a huge area or anything) and only localized tenderness. BFing isn't painful at all. But I'm terrified of mastitis! Even more terrified of thrush, though, so I really don't want to take an antibiotic.
