The reason it adds things that people purchase within the same transaction to your registry is that anything that is purchased "on your registry" can be returned without a receipt, no questions asked. I'd imagine this is the thinking behind it at other stores. So, for example, I go to BRU and buy a few things on the registry, but then also buy this outfit that I think is really cute, it adds the outfit to your registry. But you open it and think the outfit is hideous and want to return it. I had a few items like that where the exact item I registered for wasn't available in store so the person bought me a different version and that served as my gift receipt if I wanted to swap it. I just wanted to add though that if it says 0 purchased, then it's not the issue of someone buying other stuff at the same time they were buying a gift for you. I have a friend who works at a baby store and she has told me she totally gets grandmas coming in trying to change or add items when they don't approve of the registry picks! Crazy, but true.
