@Mrs tartan: Yep! I am currently 9/26 due date but I am consistently measuring ahead so we'll see! We're both on the cusp...you could be a Sept Mama and I could be Oct! Will be fun to see if we switch places when our due dates come :-)

@Mrs tartan: Good for you and your bowl of ice cream in protest! Usually my doc would be alarmed if I jumped in weight between appointments. She more wanted to see consistent weight gain rather than nothing one month and 5 pounds the next. Just do what your body tells you. your weight is still in a very healthy range for being 16w pregnant!

@SweetiePie: how many weeks are you?

I'm definitely going to tell my usual midwife when I see her (not for another 6 weeks though, so by then I'm sure 5lbs will seem like a speck of dust) but I want to tell her so she doesn't make other people feel like that.
Definitely no mistaking the numbers she actually said "5lbs is far too much at 16 weeks"...witch.

I do excersize as i horse ride and walk my dogs, plus i crave fruit all the time so I've been eating far healthier than normal. Tonight in protest I ate a bowl of ice cream after dinner. Haha.

What the hell?!

I know you don't have a choice of what midwife you get each time with the NHS, but honestly I'd file a complaint. That's completely absurd. Every woman puts on weight at a different rate, and 5 pounds at 16 weeks is not the least bit abnormal.
It's very unprofessional for her to say something like that to you and not back it up with her reasoning and recommendations, anyway.

Maybe she misread the numbers? So strange.
You are definitely within normal with that gain, and there are no absolutes about the rates of gain for different women. Like others on here, I gained 1lb/wk in the beginning and it slowed down at the end. Some people lose at the beginning and gain 2lb/wk at the end. It totally varies. If you're being healthy, you're doing fine.

5lbs is great. FWIW - weight gain won't necessarily follow the normal curves. First trimester I gained weight too fast and the doctor gave me a warning. Second trimester I didn't really gain anything and the doctor gave me a warning. I ate the same healthy diet and exercised the whole time. In the end I gained 30 lbs. I've lost it all too.

That is so awful that she said that to you! I wouldn't worry about it at all. Sounds like you are doing great! I had a similar situation at my 13w appointment though, as I had gained 1lb and my ON said something to the effect of "you gained 1lb which is ok but the baby doesn't really need anything extra at this point". I've since gained 1-2lb more at 15w so I'm not looking forward to my next appt. I plan to change providers if she says anything else negative. We don't need that extra stress!

Oh, that's just absurd! First, 5 lbs is, as many others have stated, totally within healthy guidelines. Secondly, it's even possible to gain that much overnight if you had a few days of consuming high sodium meals! One dinner of Chinese or pho, and I'm definitely feeling it the next day.

You sound like you're on just the right track for a healthy pregnancy, I wouldn't pay her any mind.

I consistently gained 1lb per week my entire pregnancy so I was already up 16 lbs at that point. I am glad you don't have to deal with her anymore. Not only is she wrong, she didn't even offer any helpful advice!

5 pounds does not seem like much at all at that point in your pregnancy! She sounds awful, I'm glad you won't have to see her anymore. Try not to let it get to you and just keep doing what you're doing.

That sounds fine to me. I gained 2-3 immediately and was at 5 by 16 weeks. I'm 20 now and still at 5. I think unless someone is being really unhealthy that bodies do what they need to do.
