I recommend brushing up on your skills in a class. When DD choked on a 1/4 strawberry around 2 I knew she would not be eating out of my sight. She only eats at the table and now that she’s 4 only foods I know she can handle when I’m doing other things and not sitting with her. I remember it happening, for some reason I didn't panic. I don't remember but I was obviously able to get it out... I think I threw up bc I ended up coughing so hard. Anyway after that experience I asked my firefighter uncle what to do if it happened again and I was alone.... I have such choking phobia. I choked on bread when I was in middle school and my sister in law, who is really calm in emergencies, saved my life by giving me the Heimlich. It's so scary when these types of things happen. My 4 year old DD chocked a few months ago and I was one of four adults in the room, but the other three froze and panicked while I ran to her. You were able to act - which is the most important thing!</p> <p>I was able to dislodge it with back blows and then she threw up in my hands. Thank god DH grabbed it and administered it correctly. I tried flipping him over and smacking his back. I probably should have done the heimlich but I was panicking and not thinking. I ended up calling 911 but he got it out while I was on the phone. So thankful he’s ok and I was right next to him. I keeping thinking how usually I’m in the other room ☹️. It was awful and I just needed to tell someone </p>
