Yes because nothing says relaxing like postpartum bleeding, vag stitches, cracked nipples, engorged, leaking boobs, the smell of spit up and rotten milk everywhere, sleep deprivation that will make you delusional,oh yeah and having to take care of the human you just birthed!

New moms rarely have time to shower, clean their homes, grocery shopping and cook, let alone relax! Boo to your co-workers!

It infuriates me when co-works refer to my mat leave as some kind of vacation. They seem to think I owe them something for being gone and them not being able to take a leave. It wasnt and f***ing vacation!

@ElbieKay: ahahahhahahahaha!!! That feeder is hilarious!

I feel like the majority of my first maternity leave was spent googling, "breast pain" "battling thrush" "switching to formula" - but I did watch a fair share of Netflix TV shows. Still, I had a mini list of "what I'd like to accomplish on maternity leave" prior to the start. And then the reality hit that I wouldn't have time to paint a mural or organize my recipes.

This time around, maybe those recipes will get organized. Or - maybe I'll just do my best to soak up every minute of the newborn haze because this is my last rodeo.

Yes I had some male coworkers (who are fathers??!) ask me how my "vacation" was. This is just another reason why corporate America sucks for moms.

@ellewoods84: the good news might be that after a week or so home with a newborn going to work might feel like a vacation :) I was soooo jealous of my husband when he went back to work and I was home with a 3-week-old screaming newborn.

With this second one I'll have my then almost 2.5 yo home too, so I doubt I'm going to be doing much reading. More likely I'll be putting on episode after episode of Daniel tiger while I nurse.

@LuLu Mom: I know nothing about how my mat leave will be when my twins arrive. (Yeah, I know having twins will be even harder.) I am thinking that it will be a mini vacation (or better word, mini break) because I won't have to go to work (don't have to worry about commuting, don't have to deal with work deadlines, etc.) Granted, I'm sure I'll be tired and exhausted and having 2 newborns will be really hard.

I'm thinking that these comments are from people who are thinking of your mat leave as a break from work. Which it is. Though, I agree with others that 'relaxing' shouldn't be in the same sentence as mat leave.

ETA: I'll admit that I am looking forward to mat leave because I can turn off my work brain for 3 months. Also, I might even be naive to think I can job hunt while on mat leave.

@LuLu Mom: I'm with you I thought it was pretty relaxing as well. With DS he nursed all.day.long so I sat on the couch and watched TV or read books.

With DD, DS was in DCP full time, so again I just sat around - LOL

I was exhausting but not doing any work

@birdofafeather: right? sign me up for that kind of maternity leave. I sometimes feel like I have slight PTSD from my last maternity leave just because of all of LOs feeding issues and sleeping problems. I would just never, ever put "maternity leave" and the word "relaxing" into the same sentence together.

This whole thread makes me laugh thinking of maternity leave as vacay. Can I move to the St Regis in Kauai for 3 months with a nanny to bring my kids to me when they need me? That's a maternity leave vacay!!

@Foodnerd81: the benefits of breastfeeding! Since I EPd, I was usually pumping while rocking LO in the Rock n Play (because she would inevitably cry if I couldn't hold her for 25 minutes), and then I had to fill the bottle, feed her, wash the bottles.

No time for reading the first few months.
