@runsyellowlites: I think that as they get older DIY will be easier to do, maybe even with their help! I like crafts :

And I LOVE that invite but may hang on to it until DS's 3rd birthday( is it too early to plan that??). That way he can enjoy the crayons instead of trying to eat them. And I can stretch the rainbow theme another year ;)

@NaturallyCathy: Idk how much diy you like (I do alot to save funds) but I saw this "art party" invite (looks rainbow to me) & thought it was to die for cute!

http://www.makoodle.com/art-birthday-party-invite/

And here's the whole party so maybe DD's party can be rainbow/"art" party with fun toddler crafts...

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: We don't have a water table - but maybe she'll get one for her birthday! I love the bubble idea! The only kids though will probably be my kids and baby cousin unless I make some mom friends between now and then. I just hope thatthe weather here in Tennessee cooperates!

Maybe as a back-up I should get some of those plastic colored balls everyone has? They're rainbow colored!

This is a great idea! They will never really care! I saved a bunch of the decor from my daughters first since a lot of it was just hot pink. I may incorporate it somehow else into another party later.

I don't see why not, as long as you make it so it isn't obvious that it is all the same decor.

So forgive me if this seems pretty 'durr' but it just came to me when I was posting on the other party planning thread (and those people are totally not overboard, I commend their ability to plan and organize ahead!).

Here's my situation: DS will be turning two at the end of January which puts us having to celebrate right before he actually turns two or a little into February because of the Superbowl (I ran into this problem last year). DD was born the very first part of March. She'll be turning one.

We just got a new-old house this past spring so we have plenty of room to host a small family and friend gathering (about 15 max) so that saves on the cost of a venue. And I was thinking... Since they're so close together age wise and time of the year wise, I can just buy some supplies and use them for both parties but in a different way!

My idea (thanks in large part to @yin) is that DS gets a Daniel Tiger themed rainbow party and DD gets a rainbow themed party too! Her party needs a focus so it doesn't seem like big brother's leftovers but what do you think? If I do rainbow for him bu play up the red and then do rainbow for her but play up the purple or blue or something... Would it work?
