This post doesn't bother me. The original poster asked what others thought. Also, I DO know people who struggled to get their kids out of their bed even at age 5, so while it may not be every parents experience it may be others.

@Cherrybee: Ah, ok. I saw it on an AP bingo "game" on facebook. I was like.... hmmm, never heard of that. They said it was something negative they heard when breastfeeding past 12 months.

@mediagirl: A person on facebook, not you.

She did ask for opinions, so of course the OP is going to get them! I don't believe it, and like some pps I think maybe it happened to her or someone close to her.

Edited (shortened) because I got confused. ;)

I've warned friends of what happened to me with my co-sleeping colicky baby. I wonder if I was too judgmental and opinionated. He slept in my bed until he was 3!!!

Sounds like someone had a baby in their bed until they were 5. :) I hear so many warnings from moms who are venting about their current situations. We never did CIO with lmw and she has never slept in the same bed as us.

Psh, that's ridiculous. DD has never had to cry it out (not saying I'm against it, it's just never been an issue for us) and she would flat out refuse to sleep in our bed or in our arms.

Facebook is just such a big eyeroll for me anymore

@pastemoo: The word bitty means far too much to me. Ugggggghhhhh!

It's from a sketch show called Little Britain. The sketch shows a grown man breastfeeding, basically. He asks for it by saying "bitty... bitty". I'm not sure it pokes fun at AP so much as at grown men who haven't cut the apron strings but it has been used to take the piss out of people who breastfeed older children.

She's wrong, my kid won't be out of my bed till he's 16 right?

(My kid only rarely is willing to cosleep anymore. And mostly only at 4 am. He's only 17 months, so I'm joking and already wistfully missing the baby days.)

On a side note, does the word "Bitty" mean anything to you? Apparently it's from some British SNL-type show or something and makes fun of AP in a similar way.

FB lets people be judgmental--even more so than in a conversation. :(

@stargal: oh I know she asked if it was okay...I just think her statement went a little too far.

Example: I never did CIO and my child self soothes great and sleeps in her own bed, has never slept in mine. It just rubbed me the wrong way.

Yes, definitely. If you don't do CIO, your child will be in your bed till they're 5. And won't self-soothe. Word.

This is not a PSA. I'm all for CIO if it works for you and not for CIO if it doesn't work for you. The thing I don't like about her statement is her opinion of what will happen to your child if you don't do CIO.
