I've done that for about five minutes before too... except I was in the area and just didn't notice that when I turned it down it went off. The babyproofing supply situation south of the border is not all that great and most stuff costs like 3x what it would cost in the U.S. But I am not going to give up. We had a similar situation. My husband was cooking with oil, and the oil lit on fire and filled our entire townhouse with smoke. It was so bad you could hardly see through it, and LO was only about 5 weeks old. Thankfully it was a beautiful day out, and I immediately took LO outside for a walk. And we opened every window and door.<br /> I got a killer headache later though, so then I was paranoid about carbon monoxide poisoning and I watched LO like a hawk, and even called my mom to get her input! It's so low that you can barely even see any flame. What I didn't notice was that the gas wasn't lit! When I came upstairs three hours later, the entire second floor smelled of gas. Charlie and Olive's rooms are on the second floor!</p> <p>I was freaking out and opened all the doors and windows, but I didn't want to wake Charlie and Olive. Their rooms had doors closed with draft dodgers under the door, and their rooms didn't smell like gas. I turned on a fan in front of their rooms to circulate the air.</p> <p>I was so worried that I couldn't sleep last night because I was watching them both on the video monitor to make sure they were breathing. I finally closed all the windows at 3am (opened them around midnight) and went to sleep.</p> <p>Moral of the story -- never leave the stove unattended!!!!! </p>
