@Happymama: Unfortunately I don't have hundreds of extra dollars right now for the monitor. She already has black out shades, but light isn't the problem. She's been napping for over an hour now and our blinds are all open.

You should definitely get an audio/video monitor. Then you could move her swing into her bedroom and let her nap in there with the door closed. Also, buy a sound machine and choose a white noise sound. Darken her room with blackout shades. What's the worst that could happen? She might just sleep through the knock at the door!
Ps I've been there! I've tried it ALL! And when she outgrows that swing.......yikes, then what?!

@Happymama: She is my first baby. I do have an audio monitor, not video. She does have her own room with a crib but she refuses to nap in it, and I don't feel comfortable letting her cry it out. I don't fear nap time, I fear people knocking on my door to disturb nap time. It's a pretty common problem, I'm not the first to post about it.

She must be your first baby? Do you have an audio/video monitor? Does she have her own room with a crib and a door you can close? Dont fear naptime....There's lots of ways you can help her become a better napper.

@mrbee: It is in the open space which I hate. But she's getting so big that she starts sitting up in it, etc. and I'm too paranoid to have her where I can't see her. She's strapped in of course but it still freaks me out. Either way... she'll be too big for it soon so we'll have to figure something else out! I'll try the white noise though, anything to help her nap!

@artbee: I was amazed at how effective white noise machine + iPhone white noise app has been for us... the kids can truly sleep through almost any noise! It helps though that they are in their own rooms with a closed door... not sure if your swing is in a nursery or out in the open space!

@mrbee: She naps in her swing when we're home (which she's getting too big for, uh oh!), so it plays soft music for her that helps with normal noise. But nothing's going to drown out our crazy dog!

Could you get a white noise generator? We bought one and then also turned one of our phones into a white noise generator with an app, and the combo drowns out almost all noises!

@Happymama: I know he's awesome! He actually rarely does stupid things. I'm not used to this! But you can't tell me that you never get just a little bit upset when your husband does something stupid. Trust me, I've read every book and asked every mom. I try all sorts of different things to help LO nap better. We have something now that works for us, and if it means I have to be quiet then so be it. She's always been a light sleeper. And no way would I get rid of our pup! He's part of our family, and I actually do like that he barks when people come to the door. He protects us!

@Andrea: The old book smart vs. street smart arguement, lol. Sadly I think my hubby has both... while me not so much.

2 thoughts....1st You should be counting your blessings that you have such an awesome husband who loves you and realize that you probably do plenty of things that he would think was "stupid" too!! ;) Besides, could imagine raising your baby without him??
2nd Why is the baby a terrible napper?? You need to look at the timing of her naps, when you're feeding her in relation to laying her down, nap time routine and her room environment.
Ps. Can you get rid of the dog??

@BabyLove: Seriously? Vacuuming? I've taught my husband that when LO naps, we just sit still and do absolutely nothing. He still had to learn the hard way by trying to do something... and of course waking her up.

@artbee- I really feel for you. This past weekend, my husband's family was coming over for dinner. So he wanted to clean. Our LO is also a horrible sleeper. But, he chose to start cleaning (a,k.a. moving things around, vacuuming, starting the dishwasher, etc) when she was sleeping. She immediately woke up. What.a.dweeb. I was so annoyed!

But, he was cleaning, so that's the good part. It's just that he was dumb and didn't consider the timing of it.

@BabyLove: Lol. But my husband knows LO isn't a good napper, I always complain to him when someone like the mailman (who did this just yesterday) knocks on the door and wakes LO up, and he even said, "I thought about that when I was talking to the neighbor but didn't know what else to do." To which I just kept quiet because that just seemed easier.

That's ok. His time will come when I'm out, he's watching her, and someone will disturb her nap.

Oh girl! If I had a dollar for every stupid thing my husband has done in our 9 years together... I wouldn't be writing this from my office computer!

The thing that I (try to) keep in mind, is that he means well. For the most part, somewhere in his mind, the things he does not only make sense but are meant to benefit others. It's just that I often don't see it the same way.

Today he told my neighbor to come knock on my door before going into our backyard and fixing our connecting fence. Knocking is no better then ringing the doorbell for us because our dog will bark. LO just started napping and I know they'll come soon. And it's my husband's fault. Why didn't he just tell them to go without knocking?!

Plus we have lunch plans with friends so I really don't want LO to be extra tired. Boo.

Anybody else's husbands do stupid things like that sometimes? Or is it just mine?
