if you really miss breastfeeding, you can start up again but then also giveher formula as well that way she will get used to the taste of formula too but you will still get the bonding you miss and the health benefits of breastmilk

@zippylef: thank you so much for this! I appreciate your honestly with me. I just feel so conflicted about the whole thing. I have no doubt she would easily comfort nurse on me and I could get things going a little. I mostly miss it to soothe her. She takes bottles pretty well but is an inconsistent eater to begin with. I'd be more looking to combination feed her than 100% get her back to the breast. She has always done both happily, with a preference for the boob when I was offering it.

Yes, if I were you I'd just try. 9 weeks is kind of early to wean, so if you have any second thoughts, you may as well give it a shot. You have to trust your mother's intuition and just go with what you think is the right decision, especially when other people may not agree. From what you write, it seems like you're feeling that it might be best to continue to BF her. It's highly unlikely that it's going to make a different whether her bottles have BM or formula in them when you send her off to daycare. Her providers don't smell like your milk so she probably won't care. Good luck!

It took a few months, but my breasts never feel firm anymore but there's a heck of a lot of milk in there! It will take some effort but I bet you'll be able to relactate.

I tried relactating at 6 weeks pp after quitting at 2 weeks due to issues. C refused to nurse because there wasn't enough there for her and pumping was too time-consuming and too much of a pain in the butt.

I ended up quitting the relactation because I felt like C was happy and healthy being formula fed and I was torturing myself for something that didn't seem to matter to her very much. I felt guilty that I was spending all this time and energy pumping, cleaning pump parts, etc when I could be spending that extra time with her.

It's possible but it's a very long road and it takes a long time. I couldn't hardly keep up with it as a SAHM, I couldn't imagine doing it if I was working. I do understand your feelings though.

@Mrs. Stroller: you really think? My breasts don't feel firm ever anymore but I do feel ducts near the nipple. My husband has mixed emotions about the entire thing. I talk about it pretty often and he is frustrated I can't make a decision for myself. I keep trying to explain its a hard decision for me but I don't think he gets it. He quantified it by saying she is doing great with formula now why would I interupt that to just wean again. SIGH!

You should be able to re-lactate without any problem. Just start nursing as much as you can and pump several times a day, if you have a pump. I have a friend who just relactated at 10 months after having to take two weeks off because of an illness. At 9 weeks your body is definitely still in milk making mode.

Don't worry, she won't refuse formula at daycare; it's all yummy :)

I'm so glad I'm not alone! My supply was off as well and baby was nursing constantly. I tried pumping but only would get 2-3oz a session on a good day both breasts. DD is content with bottle feeding I shouldn't jinx myself!

Just want to say that I'm right here with you! I stopped breastfeeding a couple of weeks ago when I went back to work. I had extremely low supply all along, so we supplemented heavily with formula, but I would still breastfeed at each feeding session before giving baby her bottle. I definitely miss BF now that DD is exclusively formula fed. She doesn't seem to miss breastfeeding all that much though, so I just try to get my love and snuggles in other ways.

I feel so selfish. I weaned my DD @ 9 weeks (2 weeks ago) and am missing our breastfeeding bond terribly. She is a wonderful formula feeder but am so tempted to put her to the breast (she still roots in my chest) but am scared with her going to daycare that she will refuse formula. I'm sure its best to wait for baby #2 to breastfeed again but wow! Who woulda thought!
