I know how you feel. My two best friends from high school are back east while we moved abroad, had kids and are now living in the west coast. I feel like my kids are missing out on having these wonderful people in their lives. I Skype with our family all the time. I should really try skyping with my friends as well. I know it's not the same but it's something. Thanks for reminding me!

I understand too! Especially the "pregnant all alone" part. I moved to another state while 5 months pregnant and could not believe how much I wished I could have a familiar face nearby during the newborn days. My best friend is getting married later this year and then moving... to South Africa. O.o If you figure out a way to have kids grow up together while separated by miles, let me know! Sorry I don't have any suggestions for now :( just wanted to say I really empathize.

@photojane: Awww thank you! Visits are definitely not out of the question, especially since her parents still live here so I know she will be back at least once a year for holidays. (As are the parents of the friend in California so we see her at least once a year, usually more.) So at least we have that. Seattle is definitely not Hungary!

@mrbee: yes... unfortunately we are all very lazy in terms of Skype (one of the 4 of us has been in California for over 5 years and we STILL don't skype regularly with her). Plus the time difference makes it so tough. Our husbands used to play xbox 360 all the time together, but Rob Sr. hasn't played in a while... but it might be a good way for us to connect again! While the boys play we could skype. I'm sure Rob Sr. wouldn't mind that arrangement ;)

One of my childhood best friends (grew up in the same church, best friends since we were in 1st grade, were each other's bridesmaids, etc etc etc) is due in 10 days. She lived just 15 minutes away from us until last Christmas Eve when she and her husband had to move across the country for her new job. She was 6 months pregnant with her first at the time and I was just over a month pregnant with my second.

I got really emotional when they moved away because I was pregnant all alone when I was pregnant with RJ... I've basically been waiting all this time to share the experience of having children with my best friends, and before it could happen she had to move. And my dream of our children growing up as friends like we did is basically shattered because their move is permanent.

So anyway... She's due in 10 days and I (along with our other 2 childhood best friends) have been sending her all kinds of treats and stuff, but I just can't help but be really, really, really sad that we're so far apart in this time that I was so looking forward to being together!! They were the first people at our hospital room to meet RJ and I won't be able to be there to meet her first baby.

Anyone want to join me in wallowing in my little pity party (which really isn't a big deal at all)??? ;)
