I am pretty sure our bruan forhead thermometer is a random number generator... I always use rectal thermometer in the baby is I am worried and try to get my older one to hold it under his arm.

@peachykeen: According to what I have read, the readings are supposed to be different. Temporal and ear temperature can vary by up to 2 degrees, according to this:

https://www.webmd.com/children/tc/fever-temperatures-accuracy-and-comparison-topic-overview

We just switched to a Braun ear and much prefer it to the Exergen temporal that we had. I just feel there is less risk of error and trust it. Our pedi uses an ear which gave me the idea.

I just bought the braun ear thermometer this week and am really happy with it. I find it easier for my toddler to tolerate than the forehead swipe kind that i also have.

@lady baltimore: We've had this one for a few years and I can never get an accurate reading! The forehead and ear give me totally different readings :bummed: Maybe I just got a dud?

Finally gave up and bought an Exergen temporal, which I do trust but I also follow-up with either rectal thermometer for baby or underarm for big girl if I'm worried about a high reading.

We have one that has both. I like having the option - forehead for a quick check, ear when I need a more accurate reading.

I don't know if it's this exact one, but it looks like this: https://www.amazon.com/Innovo-Medical-Digital-Forehead-Thermometer/dp/B072F7BFFN/ref=sr_1_16_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1517501237&sr=8-16&keywords=baby+thermometer
