Definitely sounds like 4 month sleep regression. LMW got exponentially better after the 4 month mark. Even with teething (she's almost 5 months and has cut her bottom 2 teeth!). Stick with a routine AND push that bedtime back (most nights we start her bedtime routine between 5pm and 6pm) and just keep at it... the number of times you have to go back in will get less and less. Just take turns and good luck :T

@autumn865: Two things to start with. Maybe try giving her some gripe water before she goes to bed. Also, don't worry about cutting out caffeine - it isn't transferred through breastmilk.

I know for us, this regression was really tough. We ended up having to throw everything out the window when it came to trying to get her to sleep in her own crib and soothe herself to sleep. We just did whatever it took to keep her sleeping, and that meant holding her until she had been asleep for about 10 min (once she was in a deep sleep) and then verrrrrry gently transferring her to the crib.

Could she be hungry in the night? Maybe try giving her the breast if it's two hours or more since the last feed. A quick nursing session is by far the fastest way to put my LO back to sleep.

Also, when she wakes in the night do you switch the lights on and talk to her? Try keeping the room dark and quiet and hopefully she'll eventually understand that night time is not for socialising

Is the swaddle tight enough? We had to double swaddle my son to get him to sleep decently. Otherwise, he just woke himself up constantly.

I read somewhere that after they're asleep in your arms or from rocking or whatever, it can be helpful to wait 20 minutes before transferring to crib to make sure they're solidly out? Maybe?

She is 16 weeks old so I'm thinking this is her four month sleep regression. If that's the case time might be the only thing that would make things better. But maybe we will do the earlier bed and just put up with the ever hour awake for awhile longer in hopes that things would get better in the future!

Yikes, what a nightmare. I would try to stick with an earlier bedtime and muscle through it. I had to move Livs bathtime to 6 and bed by 7 to get her to sleep better

I had posted about two weeks ago about the regression my LO has been experiencing with her sleep. Two weeks later we had two nights of more normalcy but we are still struggling and things have even gotten worse! Here is an example night for us (last night):

8:00- 9:30- quiet play, bath, jammies and read books
9:30-10:00pm- last feeding of the night
10:00- 11:00- DH and I rock her, bounce her, sush her, swaddle her, paci her, swing her. It takes at least three times of putting her down and five minutes later she is awake. Very frustrating!
11:30- Awake and rocked back to sleep
12:30- Awake and rocked back to sleep
1:00- Awake and rocked back to sleep
4:00- 4:40- Awake and hungry for a night feeding
5:15- Awake rocked back to sleep
5:45- Awake rocked back to sleep
6:15 -Awake rocked back to sleep and brought into bed with us
7:15 - 7:40- Awake and hungry for a feeding. Bring her back to bed with us
8:40- Awake for the day

PLEASE HELP! We have tried to put her to bed earlier with only starting the waking every hour cycle earlier in the evening instead of later. She takes decent naps but her naps have recently gotten shorter. For example, yesterday she took four naps over the course of the day for about 30 minutes to an hour a piece. She feeds (exclusively BF) every 2 to 3 hours during the day. She has been a little more gassy lately and I have cut out almost all dairy in my diet but not entirely sure this is the reason. I also have cut out all caffine. Also, the awake time in the middle of the night is fully awake. Eyes open, smiles but when rocked she will go back to sleep fairly quickly. HELP!!!
