@troberts1021: I'm glad it only lasted a few weeks, I've heard stories of it lasting a month or more!! I hope we get through it quickly and he emerges a BETTER sleeper, but even going back to what it was would be better than this! I don't know if it's his cold or the 4 month regression, but I don't like it!!

We just emerged from the 4 month sleep regression stage. It sucks. My babe completely changed his bedtime, woke up 2-3 times a night (had been down to 1 time) and naps went to hell. The good news is that after 2 weeks he seems settled back to a routine and napping and sleeping well. Light is at the end of the tunnel! Apparently it's a huge time of cognitive and physical growth for them per my pediatrician.

@photojane: gosh I hope so! I was so hating these multiple little cat naps, but now he's not even wanting to take those! Oh babies, they can be so puzzling!

@Emsmems: We did naps in the rnp, swing, and crib at that age. I just rotated. Sometimes it depended on her mood! She was a serious catnapper & it was a huge pain. But, he will grow into a better sleeping pattern - I promise!

@photojane: we do, and that is what we WERE napping in, but I was trying to move to his crib for naps...maybe we moved too soon and we should get better naps first?

Today he sounds like he's coming down with a cold (stuffy nose, coughing, and sneezing), so now I think that's playing into it!

Our LOs are the same age and honestly, I have had to put her in her swing and walk away a few times. Shes clean, shes fed and I know shes tired, keeping her awake is doing more harm than good. I know its so hard to hear them cry and so frustrating when you know they are tired but wont sleep. Hang in there, it will get better :)

@swedishfish: our night sleep is crappy too :( I don't care about a schedule, just that he naps when he's tired! In theory, that would help our night sleep, right?

@Foodnerd81: that's one of my thoughts. Ugh... Thanks for the support, though!

@Kemma: that's a good thought. I guess I'm so worried about him getting over tired I didn't think he could be under tired (since he usually falls asleep ok... Or did until the last few days). I think I'm just overthinking things!

@Danizaur: @abbydabbydoodlebug: sorry you guys have to deal with this too. I just want to sleep (and that means he needs to sleep!!)

@Zbug: he will but not any longer than in the crib. About 30 min is his max, it seems

@abbydabbydoodlebug: fwiw we never had a 4 month regression. C's sleep was the absolute worst from 2.5-3.5 months and has slowly gotten better ever since. So you could be in the worst of it already.

No help, just commiseration. You and I are in the same boat! Only my LO is 12 weeks old. Her longest nap today was 20 minutes long and fought every second of it. Dh and I literally spent over an hour to try to get her to sleep until we finally said F*** it and swayed her to sleep and put her in the swing. Only to have to wake her up to do bed time. Ugh... I know exactly how you feel! I'm dreading the 4 month sleep regression. :(

You might have more luck if you trying waiting till you see several tired signs? I'd play around with a slightly longer awake time and hopefully if you sort naps then night sleep should improve too! An hour of awake time might be putting LO into the undertired / overtired cycle (not tired enough for a solid nap but then overtired due to the short nap).

4 month sleep regression? C's sleep was all over the map at that point. We did do CIO for falling asleep at night around that age-- I really didn't think I would ever do it so young, but it would take forever to get her to sleep (nursing or rocking to sleep) and then she would wake up when we tried to put her down half the time.

I don't have any great advice other than hang in there, it will pass! Everything is a phase so do what feels right to you to get through this.

My LO's naps weren't consistent until she was just about 6 months old. Until then she napped whenever and wherever she fell asleep. I was more concerned with good night sleep at that age.

ETA - she took mostly swing naps until 6 months old as well.

My LO is almost 15 weeks and his naps have gone to crap the last few days. He is so tired and he absolutely won't sleep!

A few weeks ago we started a nap routine and it was working beautifully. Swaddle, shut curtains, turn on white noise, rock to sleep. He would only sleep 30 min (occasionally more) but we were putting him down for a nap after an hour of him being awake. The last few days, though, we just start to swaddle him and he starts fighting and screaming. And fights and fights and fights sleep. I just spent an hour rocking him and he got to the point of fighting to keep his eyes open and he just won't let go and fall asleep. After an hour I just put him in his crib and walked out because I couldn't take it anymore. He is in there talking and laughing at his mobile (that's not even on) and acting like he's not tired (but I know he is!!). What do I do?!? (I watch closely for tired signs and take him upstairs the moment I see one). Please help me not go crazy! I didn't think I was ready for CIO but suddenly that's all I can think of to do!

PS his night sleep has gone to crap too. He'll fall asleep ok but last night he woke up every hour from 11 until we got up at 730.
