@T-Mom: ahhh Im a moron. Totally missed that lol.

@autumnlove: @beaker: @T.H.O.U.: @pelikila: @StbHisMrs: Ok, so last night I made a little "fort" out of pillows around her, about the size of her crib. Stacked 2 pillows high on the sides. Worked like a charm (knock on wood.) She did wake up once at 2:30, but she went right back to sleep once I went in there and comforted her. I watched her in the monitor a lot and noticed that when she would roll and move, she kept her back against the pillows a lot like she did with her crib sides. Maybe missing that support and boundary was throwing her off. We are considering trying a toddler bed at this point if thats the case, but I think we'll stick this out for a bit longer. Ill keep updating if you guys who are following want updates. Just let me know.

My next step is to not lay down with her, but start by sitting on her bed then moving a bit away each night.

thanks for the advice everyone!

I think someone else on HB suggested setting up baby gates surrounding the mattress to make them feel more enclosed. This issue you are having happened to us as well. One of us ended up sleeping next to Dd for a good part of the night for several months! Something we will try to avoid with DS but not sure how yet.
Also, I think T.H.O.U was suggesting a method in the Specific book she mentioned, not reading a book to your DD.. The method she mentioned sounds like what super nanny does, but usually with older kids.

I need to do this before LO #2 is born so we don't have to buy a 2nd crib.. So before DS turns 2 (he's 18 months now, no climbing yet)... I was just planning to buy a twin mattress and stick it on the floor, but I'll have to follow and see what works for you :) good luck!

I'm just waiting for Maddy to do this. She pulls anything and everything around her crib into her crib and is getting better at climbing everyday.

Our crib converts to a toddler bed, and when the time comes we'll just convert it and put the bed rail on. Her step-sisters share a room with her, they've got bunkbeds and it's all I can do to keep her off the bottom bunk. She climbs right in and snuggles in. Goodluck.

@T.H.O.U.: you can use a bedrail on the floor. That might be a good idea...have her feel more confined. ill try pillows tonight and see if that works. Im losing my mind lol

@LivsMama: I was going to ask about pillows and stuff maybe that would make her feel more secure.

Is there a way to use a bed rail with a bed on the floor? Obviously she could still crawl off the bed at the ends but it may help her feel more secure. Some also put a pool noodle under the fitted sheet so they don't roll.

@babynumber1: maybe Ill try the small mattress on the floor tonight. Do you think if I, like, cover half the mattress with pillows or something it would help? I dont want to go the toddler bed route, but I might need to

I second what @babynumber1: said. Make the bed smaller to feel more like the crib. See if maybe that helps?

Maybe a queen mattress is just too big and too free for her. Maybe try the crib matress on the floor. Or if your crib converts, concert it to a toddler or day bed.

They say children like boundaries, maybe she is freaking out over feeling too free. A toddler bed with rails would contain her a bit, but if she wanted to get out, it would prevent injury.

I could try that with any standard book, as I think shes too young to really "get" what the book is saying. I feel like this would be easier if she were just a little older and could understand, but shes just so young.

My friend used a book for her older son that involved being in the room at bedtime but slowly moving each night further away. So the first night you lay in bed helping them fall asleep but not touching. After a few nights you sit in the floor next to the bed. After that you move further away. Then in te doorway and finally just outside the room so they can talk to you. She said it was a great book but I have no idea the name.

Liv started climbing out of her crib at 18 months-about 3 weeks ago. Very efficiently, even with the mattress dropped to the floor. Instead of going to a toddler bed, we put a queen sized mattress on her floor and let her start sleeping there. She sleeps well, but the problem is when she wakes up. She FREAKS OUT that shes alone in bed and cries forever, until she falls asleep (usually in her rocking chair, which we now need to remove from her room) or has us come in to lay with her until she falls back to sleep. That process usually takes an hour or more.

I think the issue is that we started laying down with her untll shes asleep, then we sneak out of her room. So now I have to sleep train a toddler, but I dont know where to start. Shes too young to really grasp the concept of "big girl bed" enough to get excited over picking out sheets. She loves her stuffed animals, but is too young to associate that she only gets a certain one in the bed. I just dont know how to do this and Im losing my mind spending an hour or more every time she wakes up trying to get her back to sleep and sneak out again. Any suggestions?
