@Umbreon: sounds like you have a plan! when they say sit unassisted it more means in a chair...basically that they have the core strength to not fall over while eating. A lot of babies at 6 months can't sit up, no worries!! My baby toppled for like 5 weeks before he could master it.

Thanks everyone. We will give solids a go this weekend. I know we are only gone for a few hours but beginning of Oct we have a concert and will be gone from like 5-11 so we definitely need to figure this out before then too!

Going to try a few different things but sounds like we will be okay next weekend worse case scenario at least.

I have also read that you should start solids when baby can sit unassisted but he cant yet. Is that bad? He can go maybe 3 seconds before toppling over. He does well in the high chair though.

4 hours he might not even need a bottle 😂😂! So many babies I know refuse the bottle the first few days of daycare, so like 8 hours. If you nurse right before you go, leave some purees for you mom to give him, he should be fine!
And yes definitely try a faster flow nipples like a 2 or 3. We use Avent and Tommee Tippee.
We started solids at 4.5 and 5 months and they did great

Did they give you any ready to feed brown rubber nipples in the hospital? Those are the ONLY nipple my picky LO will take. Also none of the common wisdom was true, she would ONLY take a bottle from me in the beginning. She also liked the milk HOT. Once we got the nipple/temp combo down she started taking the bottle from others. I’m sorry you have to deal with this. It’s SO stressful.

@Umbreon: just seeing your note about solids. Definitely start solids! There is no real reason to wait til 6 months.

We have had good luck with MAM bottles with both kids. But also, it’s a few hours on a single night? Just leave him and if he decides to wait til you get back, it’ll be fine.

@Pumuckl: thank you for this!! We will keep practicing. I'm dreading going out and buying more bottles though, because we did this with pacifiers and bought a bunch and he never ended up taking any of them. Do you I should just keep working with the bottles I have?

Another thing I was thinking about, as we could start feeding him solids. We were going to wait until he's 6 months, but he's about 20 days away from that. At least then, MIL could feed him solid foods if he refuses the bottle? Or do you think we should just keep practicing with the bottle? I know that solids are not supposed to replace breast milk at this stage. We will only be gone from about 12:30 in the afternoon to maybe 4:30. So 4 hours total.

This is exactly what happened to me with my DD1 (so kiddo no. 2) she drank from a bottle just fine and then when it was time for me to go on a business trip, she wasn't having it anymore. Luckily, we had about 2 weeks to practice and I did what you suggested - I tried ALL the bottles I had in the house. She drank the most out of the MAM anti colic bottles so we stuck with these and just practiced and practiced. I didn't really offer her a way out so if she didn't drink from the bottle or per spoon then I wouldn't nurse her for a while and kept offering the bottle (this sounds so harsh in hindsight but I waited maybe an hour or so because I wanted it to be clear that if she didn't drink per bottle that crying wouldn't get her the boob) but it worked and after two or three days she started emptying the bottle. After that I made sure to give her at least on bottle of pumped milk a day so we wouldn't have to go through that again.
She was about 5 or 6 months old at the time.

@Umbreon: that might help.
Id honestly try a couple different bottles and see if there's one he likes better. The Avent ones aren't very boob like usually

@MamaBear87: DH tried feeding him when I was on another floor.

Is it better to feed him when hes hungry or not hungry? He gets so upset if it's time for him to eat but I worry about forcing him to eat when hes not hungry. Maybe I need to try when hes not hungry but not full, like an hour after his last feed or something?

I would buy a boon nursh bottle to try. My little also likes nanobebe. I was always told to keep ebf babies on slow flow so they don't develop a bottle preference.

Have you tried having someone else offer a bottle while you're out of the house? Some babies won't take one from Mom and won't take one if they can smell you

Good luck!

We have tickets to a show in a little over a week. The last few days we have been trying to get LO to take a bottle and he doesnt want it!

He used to drink from the bottle when he was younger as I had to supplement formula due to his low birth weight. But it's been over two months since hes had a bottle and he doesnt know what to do anymore.

I'm wondering if I should change the nipple? Is it better to get one where the milk flows faster?

Right now I have the avent bottles that came with the breast pump. Not sure what kind of nipples they are.

Any tips? I can always give up my ticket but I dont want to. I thought 2 weeks was more than enough time to get him comfortable with the bottle again but maybe not?

He doesnt take a pacifier either which worries me.
