I could've written this post 1.5 months ago. We eventually decided to CIO because he would cry for an hour with us rocking and bouncing him, so we decided he might as well cry in his crib and then just be asleep instead of trying to transfer him. DS did way better than I thought he would and didnt cry nearly as long (5-10 min most naps at most). I know it's not for everyone, but it did do the trick for us!

Have you tried baby wearing? I let my 4
Month old nap in the swing or my arms or bed wherever she wants. Baby wearing helps when she's fighting it.

My LO would pretty much only nap in the stroller or car at that age. She became a much better napper at six months! Have you tried wearing him or taking him on a walk? I thought I would be stuck walking around the neighborhood forever at that age, but she naps at home now. It will get better!

My LO was a terrible infant napper! 40 min was the max and I had to nurse her into a sound sleep first. She got the hang of it after awhile.

Maybe he has lower sleep needs? Does the car knock him out? I would do whatever works, if anything. If he skips a morning nap, will he conk out for an afternoon nap during a feeding?

Baby D is about the same age (4.5 months) and oh my god the nap fights! Some days he gets a good nap or two...and some days we give up and he's awake for like 5 or 6 hours until bedtime. It's just now starting to get a little easier but honestly I don't know what changed, lol!

From about 3.5 months to almost 7 months we just kinda struggled through it. We had a lot of grouch days, a lot of car naps & lots of hours spent with her sleeping on me. It was hell. For me, that period of time is 1000x's worse than the newborn days but it finally came to an end on its own

I have to get my kids up between 6-7. I've found if I let them (especially my little one) sleep later, her naps are crazy all day. She takes her first nap between 830-9. Her second nap is around 1. She'll take a cat nap around 5 and then down for the night around 730.

DS was a terrible napper at that age, I wore him in a sling for every single nap til he was over 5 months old! Even then he would fight and scream for ages while I bounced him around until he finally dropped off.

As he got towards 5 months he started to improve, he was no longer fighting and would drop off very quickly after being put in the sling - this seemed to just happen naturally. At this point I started introducing some cues whilst in the sling - a lovey, a particular smell, humming a particular tune - and began bouncing him to sleep in the darkened bedroom. After 2 weeks of that I was able to start bouncing him to sleep in my arms and laying him down in his cot. Now at 6 months he takes all naps in his cot (assuming were home), and will go up to 2.5 hours in there. I still have to rock him to sleep, but this takes only a few mins, he doesn't fuss on transfer and if he stirs he will put himself back down.

I tried a lot of stuff trying to get him to nap better, but I think for us time helped too - he just doesn't seem to be enraged by knowing he's being put down to nap anymore! Hope your LO gets there soon

@Danizaur: Yeah, he took all of his naps on me (with no transfers to the crib) until he was 7-8 months old. Even now, he takes his afternoon nap on me half the time.

B has always been a horrible napper. At 12 months, I still have to rock him to sleep. At 4 months, he pretty much napped exclusively on me. Not at all convenient, but it was the only thing that worked.

I didn't worry about naps until R was about 6 months old. Before then it was sleep whenever and wherever. She started putting herself down for two naps a day at 6 months old with no issues.

T fights naps all the way to the very end. I used to chalk it up to being overtired but I know he's not (at the beginning at least). I start nap time well before he's overtired. Usually if it's been an hour since his last nap we are already trying to wind him down.

It doesn't work. We usually spend an hour rocking him to sleep, then trying to lay him down, he wakes back up 1 minute later, then repeat. I'm so frustrated. As soon as he realizes what we're trying to do when we rock him he throws a fit. Laying him down on his own to let him put himself to sleep is a joke. His sleep is horrible in general right now.

I need help. We just had to give up on a morning nap. He's only 4 months so I don't think he's ready for CIO.

ETA: we've tried starting a routine but it just doesn't happen. By the time we get to rocking he still throws a fit. Plus what worked today will not work tomorrow and vice versa.
