@BelugaBean: DD recently started to want to be held to go down for her nap. So, I tell her I'll hold her for a minute, and then she has to lay in her bed. I tell her I'll stay in the room for a couple minutes after I put her in her bed, but then I have to leave. She seems to accept that as a fair compromise.

@BelugaBean: could she be teething too? That always causes my LO to fight naps and wake up from them early. If I suspect she is in pain from teething, I usually give some ibuprofen and warm milk and she usually goes down the second attempt much better....good luck!

@BelugaBean: It's just so hard to know sometimes . . . you don't want to reinforce the idea to your LO that if she just keeps crying that someone will eventually go in and get her . . . but also (1) she's your baby  , and (2) you don't want to completely miss the nap in the even that it makes nighttime sleep a mess. *augh*

If you think she may eventually take a nap on her own--even if it's short--I would probably let her go. But that's easy for me to say when I am not the one listening to her. ((hugs))

hmmm...I would be surprised if being rocked to sleep for 2 days all of a sudden prevented her from being able to go to sleep on her own? but babies do like to change things up on us! I would also just stay consistent and have your DH do the same. After a few days, she should get it. I have heard of an 18 month sleep regression though, maybe that's it? Could she be sick or have ear infection? My LO usually goes to sleep on her own for naps and night, but when she isn't feeling good she is unusually clingy!

@MsLipGloss: He put her down Friday, maybe Saturday, and ended up putting her down Sunday (when her naps started going downhill again).

I'm trying to do extinction but she just isn't going to sleep so I guess I'll have to go get her in a minute.

Did your DH put her down for her nap on Thurs, Fri, and Sat?

The only advice I can give is to be consistent, whether you are doing CIO with checks/extinction. I have a limit on how long I will let my LO go based on whether she is fussing or whether she is crying.

LO was taking really good naps until last week. She was doing one 2-3 hour nap at 1pm everyday (she's just about 17 months old). Last week things started to go south though.

First, she wouldn't nap unless I was holding her Tuesday and Wednesday. I assumed this was because she had a sinus infection though. She napped just fine Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Then yesterday it was awful again and she only napped on her own for 45 minutes.

I found out yesterday that DH has been rocking her all the way into a deep sleep and then laying her down when he helps out so I think this is the issue. I'm trying to do CIO again with her naps but it's hard. She's been crying almost 20 minutes right now. Another hard part is that she's started throwing EVERYTHING out of her crib (pacifiers, stuffed seahorse, and blankets). So she has none of her things to soothe her when she does want to sleep.

What do I do? Do I keep doing CIO until she goes to sleep? This is just really hard and I did talk to him about it and he said he would stop but I need some help with where we are right now (he is off work Friday through Sunday so I think she gradually gets used to be rocked completely to sleep over the weekend).
