The tree will be an absolutely lovely gift when the time is right. The pajamas are a really nice gift for now!

Thanks everyone for your opinions

I went and bought a nice pair of cotton pjs from victoria's secret and a small gift set from sephora and have put away the tree for her birthday in April.

It's a beautiful gift, but not for right now. I'd definitely save it and give it to her later on - a shower gift would be perfect. If I was in her position, I know I'd appreciate the thought, but the reminder of the "branch that should have been" would have been pretty upsetting.

As for what to get her right now - when I was healing from my miscarriage, I really appreciated anything comforting. A really soft robe, a DVD collection of her favorite show, a whole bunch of chocolate or some calming bath time stuff?

Not sure how to vote, but you are very thoughtful. I guess I didn't necessarily think this gift would inherently cause any hurt feelings because of her mc. I think of family trees more for the "upward" remembrance of the generations before me & less so about those to come. But I do suppose it's possible she could have an extra pang of sadness receiving this gift, but there will be many things that will bring that sadness on, most of which no one can prevent. I like the pp's idea of giving an experience--that's my "go to" anytime possible.

I think it's fine. She still has a family and I'm sure plenty of happy memories she wants to celebrate. After my losses that's what I ried to do and that frame would be sweet.

I'd pick something else, like maybe an 'experience' gift such as tickets to a show/movie or a dinner out with you.

I would save it for a gift for a shower gift for once she gets pregnant again, might be too painful right now.

I think you ladies are right :( I'm at a loss of what to get her, anything she wants/needs she totally buys for herself.

I think it would make a lovely baby gift for when she hopefully has another baby some day, but I agree that it's not the best gift right now for her.

My BFF already has a little one (almost 3 y/o), and I know they've been trying to get a BFP again. She called me yesterday to say she was 9 weeks along but had confirmation that she's miscarrying.

I bought her this family tree thing that has photo frames:
http://www.hallmark.ca/en/memory-keeping/family-tree.aspx

She's obviously having a really hard time with the m/c and will find out Monday about a d&c. Is my gift inappropriate? I knew they were looking to expand the family some more when I bought it, and I know they will try again, I just don't want to tug too hard on emotional strings.
