Thank you all for the sweet comments. It makes it so much easier to know I'm not the only one who has had to do this! Luckily, I have found some great substitutes and recipes, but sometimes you just want a scoop of ice cream and a hunk of cheddar cheese!!! I'm bringing two side dishes tomorrow, so at least I'll have something to eat :)

@Anagram: The social part is probably the hardest! We've been to 2 weddings and tons of parties lately where all I've been able to eat are grapes and veggies! And as a new stay at home mom, I just wish I could meet up with friends for lunch or coffee without having to bring my own!

@runsyellowlites: I have a hard time trusting that the restaurant's allergen menus are accurate. Especially since DS is so sensitive to soy and they don't have to list soybean oil and soy lecithin as allergens.

@jodyblair: I miss food too and I'm only on my 2nd month of MSPI diet with my 4.5 month old. It DOES suck, there's no way around that. I am attempting a couple of dairy and soy free foods for tomorrow (found recipes for pumpkin pie, challah stuffing, turkey, green beans, and spicy sweet potatoes that are all dairy and soy free). But if course I have to do all the work myself and can't eat other people's cooking and can't eat out and my social life has actually suffered from this. I've been to parties... Like, long parties and eaten nothing but the 1 type of MSPI cookies or whatever it is I brought when there's an entire spread if delicious food.

Anyway, you are a hero for doing it so long. I'm going to try to pump wean at 6 months. I just have to somehow get my LO into stinky elemental formula first =)

Oh man, it's so hard! LO is 9 months and mspi as well. I can totally commiserate. I was also just complaining to DH about how I won't be able to eat anything tomorrow. We're planning to go out later in the evening so that I can eat something else without cooking for once.

Vent away! I TOTALLY remember those days! I figured out a number of recipes I could substitute things for to still get some of my favorites. It was sometimes really frustrating though to find everything & get it all just right.

have you thought about making some of your own side dishes for tomorrow so you can enjoy "Thanksgiving" foods? I made a pretty nummy vegan green bean casserole & sweet potato pies last year! Never found a good cheese substitute or ice cream though.... the SO Delicious chocolate was "o-kay" but still wasn't the same.

Here's a recipe for vegan oreos, you can get a soy free Earth Balance butter (it's actually REALLY good) & if needed you could get a gf flour (I had to cut gluten along with some other things as well).
http://www.thesweetlifeonline.com/2013/03/05/thin-mints-oreos-one-recipe/

We were able to add everything back in by 14 months, but now at 19 mths we're cutting dairy, gluten, and fortified flours again. It takes an adjustment but I just remind myself that those things aren't all that good for us anyways. lol

Oh... have you checked the allergen menus at your local restaurants? I was able to easily eat at Chili's and even some fast food places despite being m/s/g/p/n/e free (yea it was a pain). lol

You're doing great & it's okay to get frustrated! It's not easy!

I feel for you mama, it's not easy at all!!!! I have no advice other than it will end someday!!! DD outgrew soy by 1 year, and at 20 months is still off dairy but self weaned at about 15 months. I ate a lot of cheese that week.

That's a well deserved vent-- giving up all those things is HARD! I did it for a week and a half to see if it affected her and it was really difficult.

I also know what you mean about hating to be 'counting down the days'- I feel the same guilt of wishing away the unpleasant parts of infancy in general. But no one enjoys parenting 24/7, there are difficult parts. As long as we enjoy the good parts, I think it's ok.

I have been EXACTLY where you are. My LO was intolerant to dairy, soy, eggs, nuts AND wheat. It sucked. A lot. I subsided on meat and vegetables and fruit. I know all about the guilt of wanting to cheat, and wanting to hurry up and be done. But the great news is that in our case my LO outgrew everthing by about nine months and now she's a thriving one year old and we're still going strong on the nursing. You can do this! But just because you are successful at it that doesn't mean it's not super hard and it's not a huge sacrafice. You are a super mom!

That's rough! You're doing a great job so don't feel bad about counting down until he's weaned - I feel the same way about my pump! BFing is hard work!

I miss food. My 8 month old DS has MSPI and is EBF so I've been avoiding diary and soy (and eggs since they give him eczema) since he was 4 weeks old. He has been doing really well for the last few months, so I decided to trial soy lecithin to see if he had a reaction. I have been craving Oreos like crazy and got some Trader Joes candy cane joe joes and went to town. His sleep has been crap ever since, but I attributed that to a new tooth. But even after it popped through, the sucky sleep continued. I kept thinking he must be working on another tooth, but lo and behold, there was a streak of blood in his diaper this morning. Looks like soy is still out. I am so tired of doing this diet. I miss going out to eat. I miss coffee creamer. And real ice cream. And pizza. I can't even enjoy my favorite foods tomorrow at Thanksgiving. I couldn't stop breastfeeding even if I wanted to because DS refuses to take a bottle. Sigh. I know I'm doing what's best for him, but it's freaking HARD. Sometimes I find myself counting down the days until he's 12 months so I can wean him and that makes me sad. I don't want to wish away this time when he's so little and I know I'm going to miss nursing him when he does wean. But ugh. I hate this.
