@chrispygal: That is gorgeous!!!!

I just wanted to share some good news...Someone posted a PBK Cameron wall unit triple set on CL today. I asked the lady if she would split them and she agreed. So she's letting me purchase one base and the two toppers that sit above it for $200. I'm picking it up tomorrow!
http://miami.craigslist.org/brw/fuo/3222555417.html

This makes me feel so much better! I feel like it's a good deal on a nice piece! I am going to do the middle one so I will have lots of cubbies for the cute storage baskets:)

I feel the same way about furniture and had a similar struggle trying to find a bookcase for LO's room. I know you mentioned that you aren't crafty, but are you willing to stain a piece of unfinished wood furniture? See if your area has a nude furniture store - the pieces are usually very reasonably priced and all wood, but you have to stain them yourself.

@jholler25: I know this is not the color you were looking for, but have you seen this bookcase at The Land of Nod? OMG, I love it!! It would go great in LO's room and I now think I need this. http://www.landofnod.com/kids-bookcases/kids-storage-and-shelving/dollhouse-bookcase/f6214

Did you look at a furniture store like Ethan Allen or Thomasville? I always forget to look there, but they have really affordable options.

I loathe IKEA, but the Hemnes line is spruce, not particle board. They're actually very nice. It's just putting it together that irritates me.

I'm a furniture snob too JHoller, for the same reason. Honestly, paying more money for good furniture makes sense to me. It will last waaaay longer. We have a mahogany wood table in our kitchen that was DH's grandparents. It's beautiful and DH has refinished it to take away the signs of age. We actually purchased our dresser at a higher end furniture store. Try looking there. Dark woods will match well enough without needing to be a perfect match. You can check the kids areas in these stores but we had better luck in the adult section. Sure the pieces may be a bit larger, but they will last her. We found the adult pieces to have much better construction.

If you exhaust all avenues and cannot find something you love, then splurge for the good pieces. You will not regret it. I've spent some dough on our LO's room with the items I bought from PBK (not furniture) and I don't regret a single one. I enjoy them every single day and the quality is fantastic.

@MamaMoose: He's actually super handy, and typically enjoys stuff like that - he built our bar years ago. But life has been so hectic when he's home, he is in the middle of taking a test to upgrade his Mariner's License to where he'll be one level below a Master/Captain's level and can basically drive any size ship imagineable on the water. It's like his version of The Bar Exam:) So between that and some things we have coming up like our Baby Moon, I just don't want to add anything to his plate. Our life feels really wild when he's home, haha!

@jholler25: I know your hubs is away a lot but is he handy? Building a bookshelf is actually pretty simple as long as you have a meiter saw. Hubs is building ours because I wanted something custom to fit perfectly under the low window sill in the nursery. He'll build it from raw wood and then stain it to match our dresser and crib.

How about the Avington bookcase line from Target? It's more affordable ($129), and has a hardwood fame. They're only 13.5" deep, and the PB Kids ones you posted are mostly 14" deep, so not sure how that would effect your storage bins, but worth checking out:

http://www.target.com/s?searchTerm=avington+bookcase&category=0|All|matchallpartial|all+categories

The Carson line from Target is similar, but it has more sizes to pick from. Prices range from $70-$180. It's not hardwood, but rather plywood and wood veneer. They are 13" deep. We have these in both the short and tall version, and I they meet our furniture snob requirements.

http://www.target.com/s?searchTerm=carson&category=0|All|matchallpartial|all+categories

@NYCaliMama: @lydg: You guys, I checked out land of nod, and their furniture that's similar is also similarly-priced...I'm still looking at being in the $300 - $400 range for whatever bookshelf/cube thingy I get. Sigh. I guess that's just what the good stuff costs:(

To make matters worse, a LOT worse, I found this rug on PBK too that I'm pretty sure I have to have or I'll die. I hope it looks good with the accent pillows I got.... I'm going to look at it today. Sigh. Okay, they're actually holding it for me and only have one left, so it doesn't look good for the home team:(

We have our crib and changing table, and I would like some type of piece of furniture that I can put those cute storage baskets in to hold random crap (LOVE the basket liners that are monogrammed!) and also be able to set things on top of - like frames and such. I am torn between a book shelf and the Cameron storage system at PBK. But they are stupid expensive for nursery items! Cut me a break, PBK!!!!!

I am kind of embarassed to admit that I am a furniture snob. I don't like to buy any particle-board type furniture, because I did that when I was single and alone and it all fell apart. So now I appreciate a nice mahogany wood:) We have a lot of PB furniture in our house, and I love the quality (but HATE the price -GAH!). I have been fortunate to get some off Craigslist, such as her crib and dresser/changing table, but I haven't been able to find a storage/dresser/bookcase situation on there, at least not a nice one.

Do you have any suggestions of anywhere else to look other than PBK for a nice option that may be similar to some of these?

For reference, here is her crib and dresser/changing table (stock photos), and here are the options I'm considering from PBK, all would be in the mahogany color. DH would beat me if he knew I was still furniture shopping after we got her crib and dresser!
