I was able to get a call back from the registrar on Friday and she actually made me feel much better. It sounds like there’s a good chance he’ll get to go to his home school but if not it’ll be ok. Phew 😅. This also made me realize that my anxiety is not fully under control. I was crying on an off all afternoon! That stinks. I don't know where you're located, but I will give you hope that in some situations, these lists move tremendously. So many people join waiting lists, lotteries, etc. because they just don't know what they're doing. I've had a child come off a totally hopeless list for a desirable UPK in NYC, and know friends in my current suburb who have had kids who were like 30 places down a wait list suddenly get a spot; I've been given places in a summer camp from lower spots on the waiting list because a nice person wanted to be helpful and I happened to call at the right time, and I've been that person who has given up spots in programs people are waiting for because something else worked out better for my particular situation. So, all that to say...fingers crossed for you! Don't give up hope, and don't be afraid to be a bit of a squeaky wheel.</p> <p>Also, I'd be proactive about getting on aftercare lists for any other available programs just in case! It’s January! Of course people might not be 100% on top of deadlines for September, and auto reminder would be nice. </p> <p>@gotkimchi: in our town they offer half and full day kindergarten. Half day is free (well, paid in taxes), and full day you pay for the extra. They say all the same academics are covered, but are sometimes combined (like working on reading during a science lesson or something) and they don’t have as much of the extras (gym, library, etc)- not none, just not as regularly as full day. In our town they don’t have enough room for everyone to do full day, it’s an ongoing problem and they try to make accommodations for everyone who signs up by the deadline, but if you register after that deadline you very likely will not get it. Yes they charge for full day in my district and it sucks. The b***** registrar called to tell me I missed the deadline and I’m at the bottom of the list now. How bout a call/email before the deadline lady? I’m so mad and this process...and myself 😩 </p>
