That's their experience. I've had that happen before, too.. I was trying to get J to bed one night and had him next to me and was starting to fall asleep myself and I started to smell the linen closet at my grandparents house (it had the most amazing clean sheets scent, really comforting to me), it actually woke up me and made me cry! it was so real. (the house and my grandparents are long gone..)</p> <p>@Kimberlybee: I've also had very vivid dreams where I'm almost waking up. One of the most memorable was when I was pregnant I had a dream that my grandmother came to have lunch with me. I asked her why she had been gone for so long and why she came back to visit me now and she said she wouldn't miss this (the birth of J) for the world. It was so incredibly comforting. I miss her every day. I think I read somewhere once that you encounter them through smell - and I have definitely smelled my grandfather's shaving cream smell out of nowhere before. I believe that their souls are in a different realm or dimension that some can see or feel. I have been "visited" by 4 different people that have passed away and each time was to deliver a message to a family member. Of those 4 visits, only 1 person was related to me (my uncle's wife). These different visits were always during that gray area where I was falling asleep but not in a deep sleep yet. They were not the scary looking zombie scene portrayed on Halloween nights or gave me any creepy feeling at all. They looked exactly how they looked like before they passed away. </p> <p>I felt an overwhelming sense of peace after each visit. It just reaffirms my beliefs that there is life after death here on earth. Our souls will live on. (Hoping and praying I will walk with Jesus and live with him forever but that's another topic.)</p> <p>As to seeing dead people walking around, I have never encountered that but I believe some might have that ability to be a ghost whisperer. But my son talks about ghosts and talks to them sometimes and I hate it! He is not very afraid of them but he will say "Go away ghosts!" Or "We're here ghosts." My dad has seen ghosts on several occasions, and my parents have had many unexplainable things happen in their house. I've also heard too many stories from friends to not believe that there's more than meets the eye. The bunk bed would just suddenly move violently, as if someone's shaking it, in the middle of the day when I was the only one taking a nap on it. One night, I got out of bed or something with no glasses on (I have very bad eyesight), and I saw a blurry white/pale colored figure, a young girl with short hair that was about my age (around 18-20 at the time). I remember she looked like one of the girls who live next door but there is no way she was there in the middle of the night all by herself, glowing in the dark. I've seen one also. </p> <p>My grandparents lived in a house with a couple of very "outgoing" spirits. Practically everyone who spent any time there experienced something. She said, no.). They just look like they did when they were alive.<br /> * If several people died in a house, sometimes she can see them when she visits. I asked if they hang out together and keep each other company, and she said she didn't know.<br /> * You can't see ghosts in your primary field of vision. They are something you see out of your peripheral vision.<br /> * One time she looked in a mirror, and she saw a ghost in the room. But when she looked at where the ghost was, she didn't see anything. The ghost only appeared in the mirror.<br /> * When she was a child, she saw spirits all the time. Finally her mom took her to see a woman, who gave her an amulet that stopped her from seeing spirits. One day she lost the amulet though, and since then she's been seeing spirits again.<br /> * Several times she has visited caves and gotten really sick afterward. She said that caves have a lot of spirits.</p> <p>She also said that seeing spirits is a curse. She wishes she never saw them, and that she was "normal." She has to avoid certain places to not see ghosts, and it's very inconvenient.</p> <p>I have to say, I am really skeptical of ghost stories but she was so reluctant to talk about all this and had so many specific details that I found myself wondering if she really does see spirits!</p> <p>Do you believe in ghosts? </p>
