@Mrsbells: I guess the one downside is if your LO grabs a hold of it and throws it on the ground? Otherwise the canning jars are made to be boiled all the time and reused so I like that.

@Coco Bee: my co-worker does that! I've been meaning to ask my day care teachers if any of the other parents use glass jars.

I am glad you found a solution! I saw a special thermos with customized inner containers at the mall, a mom was using it to feed her little girl, but I haven't been able to actually find one to buy, but it's the same concept you're going to do!

I will see if I can find it again, maybe the second time is a charm!

@Mrsbells: re: heating, I never heat LO's food! I just don't see a need. I don't want to destroy any nutrients. If it's frozen, I take out the food I need for the next day and defrost it in the fridge.

the food he eats warm is if I freshly make him food; like tonight we had pot roast and veggies, so I pureed some veggies and cut up the meat and gave it to him so it was warm.

Also, re: how much solids they eat - every baby is so different! I know some of the pp's said you don't need to bring food into daycare early on - but Cobi eats SO MUCH!! And now he is on 3 consistent meals a day, plus his normal/regular nursing schedule (morning, nap 1, nap 2, bedtime and one night session). I guess it will just depend on how your baby takes to solids. Some love it and some reject it. My nephew has finally started eating real food and he is a year old. He wanted nothing to do with it up until now.

Re: jars; I like the jelly jar idea! We have the baby bullet storage set and like it, but I wouldn't have bought it if it hadn't been a gift either. I would have just used ice cube trays and zip locs as well.

Also, idk if this would gross you out but I posted on CL to get the glass baby food jars from other moms. I would just sterilize them. But that's an idea that doesn't cost any $$!

Yea, I would only use the canning jars if you plan to reuse for other things when you no longer need them. I can so I would use them for canning afterwards so no big deal.
For price comparison the ball canning jars in a case of 12 are roughly $1-$1.25 at my local supermarket.

@LivsMama: yes in the beginning I will only give solids at home until she gets the hang of it, but I will still use a some jars in the fridge. So are the metal tops a bad thing?

@looch: yeah I think I agree with @regberadaisy: about putting the icecubes directly into the thermos. Actually I am taking Mrs bees advice, I will heat up the puree at home in a jar and then place the heated jar inside thermos because I dont want the daycare to heat it up in the microwave

ETA - Liv never liked purees, so we skipped them and went straight to table food with BLW. So I might not have needed the storage containers as much as another person might. Something else to consider, as glass is pricier.

@Mrsbells: truthfully, right at the start, you wont need them (from my experience.) they eat so little that you should be able to just do it at night or morning and night, unless you want them to give the solids during the day.

After that though, I would go glass. I jsut dont trust plastic even if it is BPA free and all that fancy stuff. I use a lot of Wean Green food storage sets and plain glass containers. I love the glass mason jar idea too. More than the ones I use because they have metal tops as opposed to plastic

@looch: that really wouldn't work that well, I think in the beginning when they are only eating 1-2oz. Daycare would have to heat the whole thing then reheat the whole thing again a few times throughout the day.
And you wouldn't be able to reheat the purees IN the thermos right?

@Mrsbells: yes, you can! Put the whole thermos in the freezer, get it nice and cold, then just pop the purees out of your ice cube trays and go...if you don't mind that the peas get mixed with the carrots!
