@hergreenapples: the link didn't work for me either, I googled "best bottle breastfeed" and the lil sugar article returned in search.

Huh..seems to have only lasted for part of the day yesterday. DH still gave her a bottle last evening (after some marathon nursing sessions my still very badly cracked nipples were done for the day) and she's been fine today.

@Mrs. Twine: I read that same Dr. Sears article! As for the bottles, your link isn't working for me, but we use the Tommee Tippee bottles with the lowest flow nipple.

I have not experienced this personally, but here is one resource: http://www.askdrsears.com/topics/breastfeeding/common-problems/nipple-confusion. Sounds like you are on the right track with eliminating the bottles for now. Maybe you could also look into bottles that require a more similar feeding style to breastfeeding (there's a list here: http://www.lilsugar.com/Best-Bottles-Breastfed-Babies-16069693)?

@hergreenapples: yep. He would scream and I was like the boob is in your mouth, dude! Lol. We would fight pretty seriously about it but then he "remembered" how to eat. Babies. Always keeping us guessing.

We had the same problem the other night and I was convinced it was an under supply issue. Had an emergency call with an LC and she said that's often a sign of being tired/overstimulated- baby appears to have its wires crossed and 'forgot' how to latch, pops on and off, once latched wont drink, gets distracted, etc. she said especially if LO recently had a decent meal to try soothing instead and see if that helps.

@aprk: Oh, interesting. I suppose it could just be coincidental that it happened at the same time as we introduced bottles. She basically gets the boob in her mouth and then does nothing - is that the same thing that happened to you?

A was doing that right around that age too. It pissed me off so badly! I could keep redirecting him to the nipple and it would take so many tries to get him to latch and stay on. It lasted maybe 3 or 4 days and then he got over it. I never considered it to be a bottle vs. BF problem, though.

I don't know that her latch is necessarily ruined, but that she's just trying to figure out the difference. If it were me, I would continue with 1 bottle a day or every other day, and then BF for every other feeding.

DD will be 5 weeks on Wednesday. She had only eaten from the breast until mid-week last week when DH gave her a couple bottles of expressed milk (one per day for two days) to get her used to drinking from a bottle, as we had to go to a wedding on Saturday. My mum babysat and I came home between the ceremony and reception to feed her, but then missed two feedings while I was at the reception (DH was the best man and we sat at the head table, I kind of *had* to stay for a good chunk of the reception), so she got two bottles that night. Then, yesterday afternoon, I had a couple errands I had to run and she was getting fussy so DH took her home and gave her another bottle. All this to say, she's had a lot of bottles in the last few days.

As of yesterday, it started taking her forever to latch. Like, she opens her mouth, but then when I try to get her to latch she just...doesn't. She latches eventually but it takes numerous tries and we both get frustrated. This has never happened before, so I assume it's related to the bottle feedings?

My strategy for now is to eliminate bottles and just BF for every feed. Anything else I should be doing? When do you think it's safe to introduce a bottle again? I had hoped that not introducing a bottle until one month would mean there wouldn't be any issues switching back and forth, but apparently not.....
