What worked for us:</p> <p>1. Reinforcing good biting (ex: biting food)<br /> 2. We read a book called "Teeth are not for biting"<br /> 3. We reinforced teeth are for smiling<br /> 4. We taught him how to sign "help" if he got in a situation that made him angry and provoked biting</p> <p>It really is a stage and the most important thing is to be consistent with your message! My daughter has been doing this recently, too! I just say, "No biting, please!" and put her down for a few seconds. I'll also offer a teether. I feel silly disciplining an infant, but I don't want it to become a habit. He's drawn blood before. I think it is mostly due to teething but our pediatrician said that we need to start "disciplining" for it now. </p> <p>She said that we should try not to yell "ouch!" or squeal even though it hurts. Even though it scares them (B cries!) it is still a reaction and can reinforce the behavior. If he bites, we are supposed to firmly say, "No, we do not bite. Sometimes she will nip at shoulders when she's picked up but I always try to gently discourage the behavior.
