@QBbride: sounds like it is a cold sore. I get them during super stressful times maybe once every 5 years or from excessive sun exposure. And sadly I passed it on to my LO  but like me she has only had it once when she was super super sick. Her pediatrician prescribed an anti-viral medication (it's a liquid) that helps it heal super fast and if you catch it early the cold sore never really develops into a blister but is just a red spot. I just mix the medicine with a shot glass of milk or juice.

@QBbride: Ah, that makes sense. Sounds like it could be a second cold sore then.

@QBbride: DD got them from me but first it was hermetic whitlow which was all over her hands because she sucks on them. It was horrible and I felt awful. She got another cold sore this year but it didn't seem to bother her at all. The doc didn't do anything even for the herpetic whitlow.

@Mrs.Scientist: he was super sick a few months ago (double ear infection) with sores I'm his mouth and a bump on his lip. The Dr. never mentioned a cold sore but I'm thinking maybe it was one and this is his second outbreak.

@Mamaof2: thanks for your experience. I don't really want to give him antivirals if he doesn't seem too bothered. I'm glad to hear about daycare - we both have to work today!!

@QBbride: My 3 yr old got a cold sore a few months ago - DH gets them here and there but he didn't currently have one. Ped told us he still could have possibly given it to her. She didn't give us any medicine but said that if it seemed to bother DD she would call something in for us - we just let it ride out and it was gone after a week or so - she was allowed at DCP

The first time I got a cold sore I was suuuuper sick and had an outbreak of several inside my mouth. It was miserable. If it's just one spot and it doesn't seem to be bothering him maybe it isn't one? I would check with your doc for sure!

Personally, I would at least consult LO's doctor. Our nanny gets them, and I saw her sharing food with LO once. I've been nervous ever since that LO would get them. Also, it could be a fever blister (same thing?), ingrown hair/pimple? Doc would have a better idea. And, I think medication might help ensure it's not uncomfortable.

I didn't even think this was possible, but I guess because it's a virus, it is?! I haven't had a cold sore in 10+ years! I have no idea where he picked it up from!

I read to put ice on it and give him tylenol. Anything else?

Should I take him to the doctor?
