@SleepyMonkey: You're right. His intake has decreased and so my milk supply shows that. I too keep trying to send extra and he only drinks about 10 ounces a day. Makes me feel better your LO is the same way. Thank you! Maybe I just need to relax a bit about it all.

@mrskc: my supply has gone down since LO started solids (and she, like A, is only so-so with them). i used to pump 12-14 oz during the day and that is how much she would drink while i was gone. now i pump 10 oz pretty consistently, and that is how much she drinks (i leave extra all the time, and she never drinks that much). it sounds like the amount you pump is exactly the amount he drinks too. i wouldn't worry about the one off day where you pump 9 oz instead of 10 oz though. i think your body is adjusting to his intake, so i wouldn't worry too much about it.

@skipra: Oh gosh, I hope that's not it but it could be a possibility.

@hellobeeboston: Yeah, I remember you mentioning before you dried up after you stopped pumping. I worry about that, so I will probably keep pumping for awhile.

@JoyfulKiwi: I would like to continue pumping at least a few more months so maybe it would be good to try and increase my supply a bit?

I think if you want to keep pumping milk for him, I would take some supplements to try and boost the supply. If you're planning on quitting pumping, I don't see the point. Hopefully your body will adjust and continue making milk for the morning & evening feedings, without pumping during the day. I just think that if you quit pumping, but boost your supply you'll only end up engorged or having your supply lower again anyway, because you're not pumping the milk out.

@mrskc: FWIW, when I stopped pumping during the day - I figured I could just keep nursing in the morning and at night for a while - I figured i would just do it as long as I had milk...well, about 3 weeks or so after I stopped pumping my milk dried up - it had been getting less & less -- so cutting out that pump really ended it for me.

If you want to continue nursing, I would keep pumping. I know people that can continue to nurse morning/evening with no problems - but that wasn't the case for me!

also, my period came back 2 weeks after my final nursing session.

@mrskc: Any chance you could be pregnant? I had EWCM and no prior period and now I'm pregnant. My supply definitely decreased almost immediately.

@mrskc: The first month when the supply took a huge hit, I was on everything. MMP, milk tea, fenugreek tabs, etc.etc.etc

my routine now is as soon as i notice a dip, (which happens the wk before af for me), i start taking 2 fengreek tabs (from gnc), calcium+magnesium and downing water... it usually helps me to keep up A's daily intake. I haven't pumped extra in a while though either.

@mrsjyw: I would like to nurse past one. So maybe my period could be coming then. I had some EWCM a few weeks ago but no AF showed up. I keep thinking I'm going to start but I don't. What supplements do you take?

@DillonLion: :( yeah my LO just comfort nurses through the night and I don't wake up feeling super full anymore. Now I wonder if him going from nursing through out the night to just comfort nursing has caused my supple to dip.

@Periwinkle: yeah I'm eating the same and drinking the same. I have been doing field work at work the last couple of weeks and my pumping schedule has been slightly off. I may try and add a pump at lunch and see if that helps.

My pumping output is definitely down. I used to be able to pump around 12oz at work (at 2x pumping a day) and supplemented the rest with formula for daycare but am down to only about 6oz or so. LO dropped another bottle over the past few weeks and my while pumping is down, my supply while nursing still seems to be OK (for now).

If you are thinking about continuing on with nursing mornings and evenings after his first birthday, maybe try an extra pumping session if you can or try a supplement for a week or so. Also, are you drinking the same amount of water still? Eating enough?

Mine has really declined lately also. Used to be 12-15 and now down to like 6-8. Never ever feel full anymore. Even after STTN

If you plan on weaning then I say don't worry about it, but if you plan on BFing for a longer amount of time past 1 year, I say take some supplements... and the supply hit could be from AF! My supply was wonky for a month and then AF showed up. And now it's wonky around that time every month!

@bpcmarj: Nope no period yet. This has been going on for the past almost 3 weeks though. So wouldn't I have gotten my period by now? I haven't even tried whole milk on him yet. So I worry it might be a tough transition. I'm really protective of my supply so it's hard seeing it dip like this.

Have you gotten your period back yet? I ask because I usually have a dip in supply for a few days leading up to it, and I didn't get mine back until P was 1. Other than that, a year is when she really started eating more food and nursing less. Now, at 16 months, we are nursing before and after work and before bed. We cut out the daytime nursing around 14 months. But, she doesn't drink whole milk (never could get her to take it), so that's why we nursed so often past 1 year.

So this is the 3rd week now of low pumping output at work. Before I could pump 12-15 ounces a day, only pumping twice. I was freezing around an extra 3-4 ounces almost everyday. Now I'm barely pumping 10 ounces and yesterday only 9. :(

My boobs just feel way more depleted and empty all the time. I would at least wake up in the morning feeling full, but now that doesn't even happen anymore.

DS is 11 months and turns one in only 3 weeks. He only drinks around 10 ounces at daycare. He is iffy with the solid foods. Some days eating a lot and some days hardly eating any. I have probably around 200 ounces frozen. I would really like to continue breastfeeding him at the very least in the mornings and evenings after he turns one.

I wonder if it's even worth it to try and increase my supply? Is this dip in supply normal around this age? Is it because he's finally eating more solid food and nursing less?
