@Thehistoryofus: Yeah that's how it is most times - he hardly ever falls asleep while nursing but it definitely makes him drowsy and I just don't want him to associate nursing with bedtime/sleep. It's food - not a sleep cue! But I've made it one.

@caffeinated: oh thank goodness I'm not the only one haha!
I am SO okay with a little fussing - it's not bad at all. I think the issue for me is that nursing is now a sleep cue. I didn't want that to happen because what happens when I wean and that vital cue is gone?!

Oh my! I think you could even try nursing at bed still but not letting him fall asleep. We did this with my LO and it worked ok. She was drowsy but still understood laying down in her crib.

I did this too!! LO is awake when i put her down but i feel like she has come to expect nursing as part of her nap routine. You may have to re-train by no longer nursing before naptime, but is a little fussing bad? I find that it gets easier to re-train if you trained them at an earlier age. Babies adapt quickly!

I nap trained Cobi at the same time I sleep trained him, at 6 months old. Which was four months ago.

Somehow, there was no definite point, I started nursing him before bed again. He doesn't always nurse to sleep, but sometimes he does. He can still put himself to sleep just fine, but will often fuss/cry beforehand for a little while now. I am mad that he was sleep trained and for some reason I started nursing him again!

How do I undo this? Do I just start nursing when he wakes up to put him back on a nursing schedule, and just start laying him in his crib at naps in order to re-train him?

Ugh I feel so bad I have to put him through this again. But he is 10 months old, and even though I don't plan to wean soon - eventually I will and I don't want him dependent on milk to fall asleep, or even using nursing as a cue for naps.

Ideas would be appreciated!
