@buttermilk: I worked up until my due date as a HS teacher. I probably could have kept working (DS was 10 days late), but I was just mentally over it, and it was easier to plan a start date for my maternity sub (the lessons lined up nicely).

I work in healthcare and I'm on my feet all day. I went down to 32hrs/wk from 34-38 weeks to take it easy and stopped working at 38 weeks. I probably could have worked all the way til I went into labor.

I worked up until 39 weeks as a high school teacher. I had planned to work until my due date, but it was just too much with the work plus my commute. I think you will know what's right for you when the time comes.

Thanks for all the advice! Sounds like it will be totally doable but just need to see how it goes! :)

It really depends on how your pregnancy goes. I have a mixed job half on my feet, half at a desk. I thought for sure I could work until my due date, then I got PUPPS and ended up not sleeping due to the itching so I left work two weeks before my due date. I'd say just waited see how it goes.

Lots of people work on their feet--what about compression stockings and other sexy accessories? My SIL wore them a lot at the end :)

I'm on my feet all day (work in an urgent care, we literally don't have chairs for the providers in the room and you can only access the computers standing) and I worked up until the day I went into labor. Actually was contracting starting an hour into my shift and they were every 5 min by the time I went home! Went into L&D that night.

I worked until 2 days before I delivered. I am also on my feet the majority of the day, and I felt fine. In fact, I thought that having a desk job may have made me feel more pregnant and swollen because I would've had time to think about it!

I'm a hair stylist so also on my feet all day. I worked until the week before my due date without any issues. I think it all depends how you feel! Being self-employed, I only took 8 weeks off so I wanted most of that to be with my baby. It's definitely do-able if you rest when you can. Good luck!

PS August 11 is my bday! :)

Totally depends on how your pregnancy goes and how you are feeling. I'm a doctor, on my feet except for 10 min stretches all day, and I worked the day I went into labor at 40w2d.

@buttermilk: I wouldn't plan yet. It really depends how your pregnancy goes. I have friends who were great, just slower and more tired by the end but could have done it and others who there's no way could have been standing that long (myself included). You can try and do it but be flexible about going out early.

I'm a physical therapist. With both pregnancies I stopped at about 36 weeks, mainly due to fatigue and discomfort by that time. My feet and hands were swollen, my back hurt, and the belly often got in the way. Towards the last couple weeks I'd do as much as I could while sitting. That said, I could have worked another couple weeks if I really wanted to.

Hi bees!

I'm 20 Wks pregnant with my first baby, due Aug 11th. I'm healthy, fit, no complications so far. I am a pastry chef and work in a kitchen on my feet 40 hrs/wk. I do have a lot of autonomy in my role and can certainly sit down for 5-10 mins at a time to take a break, but I cannot do my job sitting.

Having never been pregnant before, is it unrealistic to think I could work up until my due date? Id like to take the full 12 Wks off with baby, but looking for advice from other moms who worked on their feet while pregnant. I just asked another lady who works in our kitchen and she stopped working at 36 weeks. Thanks!
