@char54: wouldn't hurt to have them check out your electrolytes. That's how they found mine. They said to eat lots of potatoes. They are higher in potassium than bananas. Fact I did not know.

@Sugar.Biscuit: Interesting!!! I have had really bad IBS my whole life too, was on 6 pills a day until I got pregnant and had to stop taking them. Like you I had been all over the map and starting to struggle again. I will look into the potassium supplement! I actually went to the ER last week because my whole left side of my body was very sore (felt like a pulled muscle from my fingers all the way up my arm, neck and head). They checked me out and said I was fine and thankfully it went away on its own. I wonder if potassium would help even more!

I just wanted to update this. This was a flare up caused by low potassium! Went to the ER this weekend cause my body was numb and tingling (I thought I was having a stroke) & found out my levels were low. They put me on a supplement & BAM! My poo is almost normal again.

@VEGMAMA: Thank you for talking about your food allergies! I am allergic to TONS of pollen which can be in my food. I recently started eating more fruits & vegies trying to be "healthier". I just pulled out my list of foods possible food reactions & it is huge!
Almonds, apples, celery, cherries, hazel nuts, peaches, pears, parsley, strawberry, raspberry, apricots, avocados, bananas, carrots, a much of stuff I don't even know what it is, kiwi, nectarines, parsley parsnips, peaches, peppers, plums, potatoes, prunes, soy, wheat, walnuts, melons, tomatoes, oranges, sunflowers, zucchini.....Some of those that I have been eating are on the list multiple times. Thankfully I'm going to see my Allergy Dr. today so I'll be able to ask him what my reactions could be to better understand whats going on.

I have a lot of food allergies, which present themselves with IBS symptoms ... Now that I'm pregnant, I feel like I'm going 3 or 4 days without any relief ... totally constipated. I'm going to look into the Citrucel powder!

@Foodnerd81: I take miralax, align & eat activa yogurt daily. I've actually increased my amount of fruits & veg sense finding out I was pregnant. Maybe that is part of it as well. Yuck. I just don't want to have to call the Dr. AGAIN!

My IBS actually has gotten better during pregnancy-- I know, I'm really lucky. Do you take a fiber supplement? That actually helps me more than anything else, preg or not. My favorite is the Citrucel powder (non-artificially sweetened for pregnancy, with the orange cap). I think for the first few weeks I was kind of off, but once things settled in I am actually more regular than I have been in my entire adult life.

Now I remember-- yes, I was stopped up in the beginning, because I was eating nothing but white carbs and just about no vegetables. So I blamed my diet, not my IBS (though clearly, they are related).

@Mrs.Someone: I take Align daily. I can tell when I don't take them cause it messes everything up for a week!

I've never been diagnosed with IBS, but I have the same symptoms. I'd suggest trying probiotics, they have seemed to help me some.

I also have IBS. To be honest, I never take/took meds for it. I just learned my trigger foods and stayed clear. The hormones from pregnancy will constipate you and then you will remove the block and the loose stool will follow. It's likely you won't be able to completely regulate through out your pregnancy. Just keep up on the high fiber in your diet and any pregnancy approved meds.

I suffer from IBS & as long as I take my cocktail of medications (Miralax, Align, Activa) it is under control. AND THEN I got pregnant. I haven't had a normal poop for the last 2 weeks. I go from one extreme to the other. One min I'm constipated and the next I have diarrhea! That was my problem before & I just cancled my follow up because things have been stable for the last year.

Please share your experiences. This is so frustrating!
