Update: At the end I bought a box of Ghirardelli Chocolates and we wrote a thank you card with it. It just works better for us: there is no expiration date on chocolates so we can go any day and any time without having to worry having to go pick up a box of pastry prior to going there. I guess I needed your input that while this is bad we did not commit a horrible thing that no one has ever done before and it made me feel better  Thank you all for your suggestions!

@MrsSRS: If I get a chance to run by a store before we head to library, I will see if I can get a small vase of flowers too. Thanks!

@irene: basically what others have said: cookies, coffee cake, or any sort of pastry! I agree store bought. Those are always yummy in the afternoons with coffee!

@irene: I was thinking more along the lines of a muffin tray or cookie plate from whatever the American equivalent of Tim Hortons is (Dunkin Donuts?) or a local bakery.

@erinbaderin: @babypugs: store bought box of pastry... so a box from the grocery store is good enough? I like the idea a lot but I kinda don't want to go overboard. A box of pastries from the grocery store may look cheap... maybe I'll just buy a box of chocolates or cookies at target...

Librarian here---it totally happens and you shouldn't feel bad about it. But, honestly, even once the bug has passed your librarian might still be thinking about puke, so I'd definitely say no homemade food. Again, it's totally not necessary, but I'm sure they'd love a card and maybe a bag of nice coffee or store bought cookies? You are sweet to even think about it!

A box of Frango chocolate mints or Fannie Mae mint meltaways (same idea). It's a one bite treat, it's minty so it's fine on breath, no nuts in the teeth, nothing chewy so it doesn't mess with dentures, and they are unwrapped in the box so it's not really noisy or trash producing. Basically it's something sweet they can pop in their mouth quickly. That plus a thank you card drawn by your son with a picture of him in it so they remember who the puker was. :)

My mom was a children's librarian. I know she and her colleagues always appreciated food, particularly candy. I'm sure they will appreciate it but know it is not necessary. Your child was neither the first nor the last that will throw up at that library.

A little tray of muffins or cookies. I think this is an unnecessary but very sweet idea that they would really appreciate.

I worked as a children's librarian before DS was born and this was just a part of our job. Stuff happens with kids and we all knew where the stuff was to clean up puke, pee, etc., that it could happen at anytime, and we'd need to clean it up. I just wanted to let you know it happens all the time and you definitely aren't the only one!

I don't think you really need to bring anything, but if you really wanted to, I would think about food. If you go first thing in the morning maybe some bagels and cream cheese, or donuts? Any food would be set out in the break room for people to grab anytime. People did occasionally send flowers after meetings or something at the library and we usually displayed them at the front desk.

I need to pick your brains... ideas needed!!

We were at the library yesterday. DS wasnt feeling great and I wasn't aware of the intensity of it. The next thing you know he puked all over the floor :crying: thank god he didn't puke on books and the majority of it was not on the carpet. The librarians were so nice about it and two of them came with paper towels and sprays and garbage bags. I wanted to be the one cleaning the mess up but they reassured me it is ok and they were cleaning up the mess while I tried to wipe DS down to a manageable mess before leaving. I kept saying sorry as we were heading out.

I want to bring in something nice next time we visit but I dont know what to bring. I thought about a small vase of flowers and a thank you card, but I don't know if anyone may be allergic to flowers... or chocolates and a card but is it weird to bring food when my son puked all over their floor? Fruit basket but what if they don't eat fruit? DH said I can bring them books but I don't know if librarians would appreciate that when they had to clean up puke... it should be something nicer and more on top of their work?

What do you guys think? I want to do it soon. We are probably going back Tuesday because we didn't check out any books when we were there :silly:
