@mrskc: This sounds gross but my LO loves to dip salmon in grape jelly. Not really dipping, but if we put the tiniest drop of jelly on a piece of salmon on her fork or spoon she GOBBLES it up!

My toddler is the same! He loves dips. He has such good manners with it too and just gets an appropriate amount of dip. I do hummus (even with steamed carrots...he's a toddler and doesn't realize that's a little unorthodox!). He has pretty good choppers and can eat raw cucumber with it too. Greek yogurt and fruit or in place of things you would eat with sour cream. Last night we had pork which he wasn't really eating and I gave him some mild horseradish sauce and he ate it all up! Dips are great!

I had this problem with DS. He's gone on a nearly veggie and carb (like breads, cereals, etc) diet but the other day I realized that some grilled chicken that he could use a fork to dip into ranch dressing? He gobbled it up! I'm also big on the carrots and hummus. He'll eat most of the carrots and all of the hummus.

How about baked sweet potato, zucchini or string bean "fries"? Little broccoli or cauliflower florets are good too.

@LuLu Mom: Hah, that makes me laugh (re: yogurt). My niece and nephew were obsessed with applesauce. Not eating their spaghetti? Dump some applesauce on top! Don't want roast beef + mashed potatoes? Add some applesauce! Makes me gag, but they loved it!

LO dips everything, so we do yogurt a lot (kind of gross seeing what she chooses to dip in it, but she doesn't mind), guacamole, salsa, mustard. She wants to dip everything so I just let her! We do hummus too.

hummus! I completely forgot about that! My brain was seriously drawing blanks when trying to think of dipping foods.

Keep them coming! I love all these suggestions!

Salsa is great for dipping!! L loves dipping her eggs in salsa. I also have her dip steamed veggies (carrots, potatoes, broccoli stems, brussel sprouts) in salsa if she's being too fussy to eat well.

I showed my almost 18 month old recently how to dip a chip into salsa and he loved it!

Well he's been pretty finicky and picky lately with eating. My grandma was watching him last night and gave him some meatballs with a little ketchup. She said he ate it all because he got to dip it into the ketchup!

I need more ideas now! What foods does your toddler like to dip? Any healthy alternatives for dips?
