I don't have a LO, but there's a great post about discovery baskets on the blog right now! Have you tried that?

LO is approaching 6.5 months old and during the day she plays in her exersaucer and jumperoo. We also do tummy time and general floor time (and now we practice sitting since she just learned how to do it and loves it). We cycle through a lot of the same toys. We also like to read books and today I let her try finger painting for DH's birthday present. And if it's nice out we go for a walk. That's about it though, although my LO still seems to like taking naps frequently some days.

@Bao: Yeah it's been really cold and gross here...usually I spend more time bundling him up then we do actually walking, lol. Usually just around the block or up the street to a coffeeshop.

all great ideas! Do you have an exercise ball? My 6 month old loves it and we have a few different games: stand him up and we bounce it up and down (he smacks and laughs at it!), roll him around on his tummy (a modified tummy time), and he sits in between my legs and we roll it towards the couch and it comes back to us.

Right now I'm giving him a lot of independent floor time. I'll put a few toys several feet away from him in different directions and let him scootch/launch/pull/roll his way over to them. He's working towards crawling, so I want to give him as much time to work on it as possible right now.

We're also practicing sitting--I'll pull him up into a sitting position and he'll hold it as long as possible. I'll usually put something in front of him that he can grab onto, so he's leaning forward into a tripod instead of just tumbling to the side/back.

I sit on the floor with him when I'm eating my lunch and having a picnic...will set us down on a spread out blanket with a few smaller toys that are easy for him to grasp/chew on in front of him. He'll watch me eat and sometimes mimic me (yesterday he lunged at my sandwich!)

We have afternoon dance parties, where I'll turn on fun music and will dance. Sometimes holding him, sometimes he just sits and watches me and laughs.

When I'm in the kitchen I put him in his booster seat (so he can see me better) or exersaucer next to me and narrate what I'm doing while he chews on/bangs a wooden spoon, measuring cup or whisk.

And sometimes when I need a break I'll throw on the TMBG Here Comes Science music DVD. The music videos are all animated, and they entrance him.

I also try to take him outside for a walk at least once a day. It's been hit or miss lately with the weather, though. Once it gets warmer and he can sit up on his own I'll take him out into the courtyard with a blanket and some toys and let him explore the grass/watch the clouds/enjoy the fresh air/etc.

I give her a Kleenex box with silk scarves in it. She likes pulling them out and rubbing them on her body since they're silky smooth.

I give her lots of floor time. When I think she's had enough for the day give her another 30 minutes because inknow it's so good for her.

I also do regular every day things like baking and cooking and sit her in the high chair or bumbo and explain to her what I'm doing. I'll sometimes give her a spoon or whisk or measuring cup to play with just so she gets something different.

And, we go on lots of walks and go visit our neighbors (her nana and her Gigi as we call them) since they love to see her.

Luckily, my kids have each other to entertain each other, but are 6 mos so I understand.

I've found that they like just being in different parts of the house...so I can cook or do dishes in the kitchen and talk through what I'm doing, or they hang out on our bed while I put away laundry, and so on. Giving them items to .play with from your chores is fun too so it's different from their toys....so in the kitchen they get a measuring cup, in my room they play with my socks, stuff like that.

I also found around this age, we have to get out of the house at least once a day....walks, shopping, whatever.

And once you start solids, that's an activity that will take up time a few times a day. If you have the high chair already, you can just let them hang out in there with a spoon, bowl, whatever. I often do it so I can make and eat my own lunch.

My DD is 6 months old and we do the same things you listed. When I run out of things to do, I just put her in the carrier and walk around with her outside. Or we go to the mall and I let her people watch. She also has her brother to keep her entertained. I also bought a few hand puppets and she's been really interested in "talking" to them.

My LO is 5 months old and is awake for longer stretches now. I'm having a hard time finding things for her to do. There are so many times a day we can play with her toys and putting her in her jumper, swing, bouncy etc gets old after a while. We also read books and I just "chat" and sing her songs. I feel like she gets bored though...I could be wrong, but I would love to hear some ideas of some things I can do with my LO!
