Just wanted to update - we sent her to school on day 2 with an apple juice and she peed and pooped there. Since then she's been peeing regularly every few hours at home and at school.

@mrsbubbletea: She's done this once or twice, too. Even while not pregnant I usually wake up in the morning because I have to pee and never ever ever don't have to go first thing!

@Mrs. Goose: Right?! I can barely make it three hours! I think it's a combo of not drinking much a daycare and being a heavy night wetter. She's always peed a ton while sleeping and less during the day.

BUT, she did pee twice and poop three (!) times at home this evening so I know she can do it. We'll see how she does at daycare tomorrow. I'll have to buy some watermelon, too.

It shocks me how long my 3.5yo can hold it. I think he must be chronically dehydrated! He will go all night and then be up for an hour or two and not have to rush to the toilet. Especially when I was pregnant, I was like,,, dang kid I’ve gone 4-5 times since you peed last night !

DS also did this and it was a confidence thing for sure. No matter the amount of liquid, he could hold all day. We had to enforce potty time as soon as we got home and read books until he relaxed and went (A LOT). He did it with poop as well and would be writhing on the floor in discomfort. We just kept putting him on, reading books and relaxing and then it clicked at home. Once we had that he would go at daycare easily. It was a bit of a battle but for us it wasn’t the liquid amount that effected things at all.

ETA: we also played up myself and DW going and making a big deal of it. I would do a silly dance and song for him in the hallway outside the bathroom. We did treats as well. We had to do timed intervals eventually as he was being so ridiculous holding it. That only lasted a 4-6 weeks thankfully. We wouldn’t leave the house until he sat and tried, and we didn’t play until we went when we got home.

Not sure if this will help anyone, but my mom recently got DS a 24 oz Contigo water bottle that he just loves. He drinks more water than ever now and he can finish the whole thing. Maybe a special water bottle? We always take his in the car and to school.

During our brief stint at potty training DS did this too. Held it 7 hours and only went 2-3 times a day. Watermelon as pp suggested is what worked for him, and pineapple. He’s just not going to drink more water than he normally does I decided (and he hates all juice).

This sounds like DD. She is 5.5 and we still have not found a way to get her to go more frequently. We try to push water all day but it only works some of the time. She tends to wait until she is gonna burst which causes accidents even now.

My daughter just held it like crazy to start. As she got more comfortable out of the house it got better. I still have to say to my son all the time (he’s 3.5) “Ok, we can’t do <next thing> until you go potty!” He drinks a ton of water so pretty much always can go, just doesn’t like to stop what he’s doing. They both can hold it for ridiculous amounts of time without much problem, but I know it’s not a good habit.

Popsicles and lots of fruit like strawberries, kiwis, watermelon.

I’m shocked that she can hold it that long. I can’t even hold my pee for more than 2-3 hours during the day. Is she just not drinking that much overall?

DD went from no interest in potty training to being okay with it over night. Days 1 and 2 she only peed three times all day - the first day all on the floor, the second day all in the potty. Today (day 3) she went to daycare and didn't pee all day long! She finally peed on the potty at 5pm, almost 9 hours after she last peed in her night diaper. She's clearly holding it. How can I get her to pee more often?

We're letting her have as much milk, watered down juice, and water as she wants. Anything else to make her super hydrated? Any behavioral ideas to get her to not hold it?
