For road trips, we find toys and company in the backseat make a big difference. It depends on how much she seems to hate it of course, but have you tried another seat? We are on an 8 hour trip today and are taking turns in the back-- its so much easier! We can read books, give toys, feed her solids and milk. J sits by a window and she loves to look out at the other cars. </p> <p>On long rides, one of us always sits next to her. Sometimes I bring our iPad so she can play on an app or I play a little bit of Elmo for her. Do you think she may be a bit hot back there? I put Cheerios or graham bunnies in one of those Munchkin cups with the reach-in top and it keeps DD busy for a while.</p> <p>Try leaving at a time when she will sleep most of the way.</p> <p>Is she still in a bucket seat? Usually my husband drives and I entertain. She sleeps a lot in the car, thankfully and we try to drive at night whenever possible. I agree with @SeptMomma12 that is just a tough age! We struggled with her hating the carseat for at least 6 months and made it through. To be honest, we turned her around for one trip this summer at age 2 and she still screamed and cried. It didn't matter that she was forward facing. I think that's a tough age in the carseat regardless, but LO really likes to look out the window and spot trucks and cars going by, even rear-facing. In the last week or so, she's been crying in the car (rear facing convertible car seat in the middle seat), and we have a 10 hour road trip ahead of us in about a week.</p> <p>She's never loved the car, but it seems like now that she's more alert and interactive, she really hates being strapped down and staring at the back of the seat. I think it's just a boredom and frustration thing rather than a comfort thing because if someone is back there with her she's happy as a clam. She also takes good naps back there when she's sleepy. We give her toys and blankets but they usually end up on the ground after a few minutes. She has a mirror so we can see her and she can see us, which seems like maybe it helps a little.</p> <p>Any suggestions of things that helped your LOs, or is this just a stage to tough it out through? </p>
