For the twins, they absolutely don't care yet (at almost 4) whether the clothes are theirs or their brothers, so they're all in one drawer. For that matter, G can wear all their shirts and pajamas, so we share all of that, too. I'm hoping because they're boys and so far could not care less what they wear every day, that I can just keep getting away with mixing it all up. For other clothes stuff, though, we've labeled with a sharpee on the tag or a piece of masking tape and sharpee. The tape stays on through quite a few washings and is cheaper than our good name tags.

@PinkElephant: 4 and 6! DD1 does the bulk of the folding and DD2 helps put away. There are some weeks where DD2 isn't interested so DD1 does it all.

@Andrea: how old are they? I love this idea...the almost five year old actually folds/puts away really well. The almost three year old isn't interested.

@caterw: haha you hit the nail on the head...there is some degree of wishful thinking on what belongs to whom. :) particularly when big sis gets wishy washy on giving things to her sister....per my other posts today, she can still cram herself into smaller sizes and sometimes wants to reclaim her past wardrobe since, in her opinion, it still "fits"!

@Bao: totally, if they're around! Often it's at night...and DD1 recently tried to claim MY socks! But mostly they're helpful. Good point!

@skipra: funny thing is, laundry is by far my favorite chore - I love folding! I'd so much rather people do something else! I'm super systematic about it, and while I always appreciate the thought, I feel like a lot of time gets wasted if someone else folds and I have to organize. I think you are right, though - kids are getting big enough to put away. I've been considering getting them their own laundry baskets to help with this.

@Mamaof2: this is smart! I already separate kids' clothes from adult clothes; doing one load per kid might help speed up sorting (and be a good way to give them responsibility).

Mine don't wear the same size but I do their laundry separately. It just makes laundry super easy and the kids do all the folding/putting away themselves.

I'd say sharpie or laundry marker, on the tag or on the seam or waistband/neck of tshirt. just an initial, or one child's clothes have a dot mark.

I just use sharpie to write on my eldest's clothes for kindergarten.

My girls overlap on a lot of things right now, and our nanny does their laundry (we do the occasional load, but she does the whole hamper every Friday). Yes, she mixes up some of their clothes, but we hang almost everything so she does the hard part of hanging everything up and when I get home, I switch the shirts/pants that are hung in the wrong places. My kids share a room/closet so for me it's just a matter of switching from on side of the closet to the other.

But some things we have (a few shirts, a few cardigans) I use interchangeably for either girl, depending on whose outfit it matches.

I think having the kids sort would be the best option if they aren't going to fight over prized items!

@PinkElephant: jealous you have laundry helpers! We have the same sizing overlap but I am the only one to ever fold and put away. Worst case, the kids would be able to identify what belongs to them. I'm not a fan of marking the clothes in case they are able to be handed down. Could you just have them involve the kids?

I swap back and forth but my two aren't in undies yet.

As it is if DH does the laundry stuff is all mixed up. Today my 5T wearing four year old wore a 18-24mo sweater. That particular sweater is crazy big and would never fit my 2T kids but if he did the laundry it would absolutely end up in the wrong closet.

@T.H.O.U.: You mean they share? Mine "trade" sometimes - mostly undies, haha (weird, I know)....but that's all very much a negotiation - in general they're pretty possessive of their clothes! :)

My younger brothers were always in similar sizes. My mom used a sharpie to mark underwear, either on the tag, or just on the inside if they were tagless. They also often shared clothing.

This is more organizational than mini-style, I suppose, but since it's clothing specific....

If you have same-sex twins or siblings close enough in age to wear the same clothing size, how do you identify what clothing belongs to which child? My oldest two DDs (soon to be 5 and 3) have hit a point with summer things where they pretty much wear the same size - and they both will have items in their drawer ranging anywhere from 24 months (shorts!) to as big as 5 for the older one and 3 for the younger...with plenty of overlap on the inbetween sizes. I basically know whose is whose, but when other people like DH or MIL try to help me with laundry, it becomes a disaster.

So do you mark tags? What about tagless items? I feel like it's silly to use our Oliver's labels we buy for items like coats/water bottles on things as trivial as undies and cartwheel shorts.
