Yup it would bother me. Why can't the owner take him on a Keach in his own yard?!?! I think you have every right to be mad.

I would bring up the off leash but not the peeing. I mean, it's just a little pee... Say you are concerned, you have children, etc.

Is there a leash law in your area?

I'd be bothered by both the off-leash thing and the pee. Now that I have LO running around, I am totally intolerant of owners who let their dogs off leash to run around in public spaces, but large breeds bother me the most.

@HLK208: Truthfully, I have a 10 month old dog lab, and if he went on someone's grass to pee, he starts peeing soooo fast that there's no way (even with my dog on the leash) I would be able to stop him!

@MrsBrewer: I know that dogs are animals and grass is generally a place they pee, that's fine but the owner could have whistled or called him when he was going further and further into our yard to pee. You know? It was more of a problem with my neighbor than anything.

Maybe I'll feel differently when we have a dog again but in general, I try to be respectful of other people's property.

The off leash part would bother me more. Raccoons and squirrels and other critters pee freely in the yard so i don't see the harm in a dig doing the same. I'd be bothered if they weren't picking up #2

I thought female dogs could kill grass? Idk, something I was told. That said, we have leash laws in my area. So that alone is annoying.

When I walk my dog (and I'm NOT a dog person) I keep him on leash not because I think he'll misbehave, but because I don't know what other people don't want him loose around them. You never know who's afraid of dogs, who hates dogs, or who has their own dog around (whether on leash or in the yard) that is NOT kind to other dogs.

I think the fact that the dog is off-leash and always peeing in the same spot is what would bug me. I have three dogs and they're always leashed whenever we go outside. I also do my best to not let them walk on our neighbors' lawns out of respect for my neighbors. They do pee on shrubs/grass at the edge of the lawn, but I do try to keep it as close to the edge as possible to be courteous. I love dogs, but I know not everyone does!

@HLK208: I think it is appropriate to talk to your neighbor about the fact they unleash their dog and let it roam around your yard. That's not safe for the dog (it can get hit by a car if it runs into the street) or your children. Maybe approach it that way?

If the dog was on a leash and peed near the road, then I would be fine with it. I think the issue here is that the dog was off the leash. I take my dog for a walk and can't help where she pees, but she's on a leash and never gets more than a foot into someone's yard.

ETA: especially with your LOs around, I think it's TOTALLY reasonable for you to ask the neighbor not to allow their dog off leash in your yard.

We live in the middle of the city, and the number of dogs who pee in front of our building on a given day is 20+. I don't think this would bother me, except if the dog wasn't on a leash and went wandering into the yard. Granted, we don't own, but I'm not sure how you ladies control when your dogs pee. Ours goes at least three times per walk, and while I try to get her to go on the sidewalk grass and keep her out of flower beds, sometimes she just starts before I can move her.

Either way, I hope your grass grows back soon!

I can understand being upset since it's happening repetitively, appears to be causing damage to your lawn and since he's letting the dog off the leash.

As a dog owner, I don't stop my dog from peeing on the edge of someone's yard when we're walking down the street. But it's another situation to let him be off the leash meandering through someone's yard, up to the front door.

I would probably say something.

@mrskc: thanks!! I need ALL the help I can get. Our neighbor across the street came over to say that our landscaper must have not known what they were doing because our grass is dying in spots but we water daily. Lol. She's an old German lady with no filter haha.

My sister is very much a dog person and she thinks it's rude to a) not have the dog on a leash and b) let the dog go wherever it pleases but she is kind of strict with her dog.

Unless you have huge dead spots from the dog constantly peeing on your grass, I think it's absurd to get mad at them. Poop, yes. But pee- no way. My dogs would never pee on gravel (nor walk on it) and if someone asked me not to have my dogs pee on their lawn I'd probably laugh. There is just so much stuff on/in the grass around here a little pee isn't hurting them. Granted, I try to keep my dogs on the grass between the street/sidewalk and not on peoples' actual LAWNS out of respect. The bigger issue might just be this dog being off-leash.
