Rude? No. Offensive? Yes. I would write an email instead of doing it in person.

I've grown up in area with a lot of spunk and attitude. So sometimes, it's just them. I just brush it off when it happens.

If they are downright rude and nasty then yes. I actually did this just last week. The guy at the meat counter at my grocery store was really rude to me so I asked for a manager when I was checking out and reported the rude behavior - right in front of the guy! He was trying to hide behind the counter when I was talking to the manager, it was really funny. And it turns out he gets a lot of complaints for being rude too so I feel justified for speaking up.

Depends on how rude.

This weekend I went out to eat with my friend and her two kids. All of our babies were angels, not so much as a pout out of the three of them. The restaurant was packed and everyone was visibly frazzled. The hostess was so flippin' rude. Rolling her eyes at us, deep exaggerated sighs. She practically yelled at me when I was parking the stroller - at this point I was alone and couldn't hold DS and fold it up at the same time. I've been thinking over if I should go online and complain or not. She was the most aggravated with me when I was alone, waiting for my friend and I just kept thinking about single moms who have no choice, you know?

I've never been bothered enough to report a salesperson, but I have left a poor tip if my service was truly awful.

Absolutely. Depending on the situation I might call and ask to speak to a manager at a store--I hate to hold up the line! At a restaurant I'd ask to speak to a manager only after the food is delivered.

It depends on the offense how I handle it.

If a salesperson ignores me- no greeting when I walk in or doesn't offer assistance if my hands are full with clothes- I will day something to the sales person. Basically, I will explain why I am leaving the store without making a purchase and suggest what she should have done to earn my business.

If a salesperson is rude during the transaction I will stop them from proceeding and ask for someone else to help me. If I get a manager I will explain why I didn't want the salesperson helping me.

I haven't come across rude wait staff. Maybe hurried and busy, but not rude. I have left a restaurant because of bad service in general. Super slow service- drinks not even ordered.

Depends on if I'm in a hurry and how rude they are. I worked in retail, so I have very little patience with bad customer service.

Usually, I will ask whatever salesperson is near the entrance to the store if there is a manager around.

With servers, normally I just leave a crappy tip. Im usually a generous tipper.

@scg00387: I do too! I actually do that fairly often, and my husband likes to do it too...Especially at restaurants when the manager is out walking around, we will pull them aside and let them know how great our server has been.

I would definitely let a manager know, as long as you are calm and rational about it. I actually think they are pleased to get a chance to correct behavior that isn't good for the store.

And, store managers (well, managers of all kinds) are used to dealing with "crazies", so when a well-articulated person comes to them with a valid concern, it's probably great in comparison.

My brother spent $8000 (and was planning on spending more) at Ikea and a sales guy called him an a-hole in front of his 2 little girls. When my brother complained to the manager, all he said was to shop online and they would give free shipping.

Although to be fair, my brother can be difficult to deal with sometimes, but I can't imagine him being so difficult to be called an a-hole.

I always follow up whether in person or by phone/email - but I also do the same for great service too! I figure managers have to hear from angry people all the time so I like recognizing people who go above and beyond too.

It depends. I usually don't say anything, but during my first tri I was buying makeup at the Clinique counter and the saleswoman was AWFUL! She kept going on and on about how bad my skin was and how pregnant women are supposed to have a glow, not acne. She said I needed to come in for a complete makeover after the baby was born. I ended up calling her manager, who escalated my complaint to the department store manager, and they gave me a $50 gift card and two written apology letters. It was very kind of them. At restaurants I usually reflect my displeasure in the tip...At stores I usually don't say anything unless its really really bad, like my Clinique incident :)

If a salesperson or restaurant server is rude to you, would you say something?

The lady checking me out today was really rude when I thought something was incorrectly scanning. My friend said something to her and told me I should get her name and report her to management but I hate being confrontational. If it was a restaurant server I would probably leave a poor tip.
