@illumina: Awesome! Thanks. Now I just have to find one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. TK Maxx, here I come :)

@sarac: I wouldn't wear all black, but I've noticed a lot of people starting to wear black dresses with hints of white or another colour to break it up a bit.

Woah, it's not kosher to wear black to a wedding there? Difficult! I think that floral dress works, but it isn't cocktail formal for sure. How about a big classy necklace over it? Something that matches but has some big flairy drama.

@MegWag: Yes of course it would be fine. Ladies are starting to wear white/ivory dresses to weddings lately, I don't think it's so much of a faux pas as it used to be.

@illumina: Thanks! So if I did an Ivory fascinator, would that be ok? All my American friends would be disappointed if I didn't have something on my head in the pictures ;)

@MegWag: I haven't been to many weddings where people are wearing hats... people my age tend to wear fascinators, if anything. I've never worn anything on my head as it's not really me. Your dress sounds really nice :) (btw, I'm British)

Pregnancy = free pass, everyone just wants to see the belly anyway :)

However, I agree to go with a black maxi and bling it up with some gold or pearls. Black anything would fit in well with cocktail attire.

@Cherrybee: I love the first ASOS dress! Slight threadjack... I'm going to my first British wedding next month and need some help with what to wear. My husband is useless on these matters. It's a 2pm ceremony at the Ramada Solihull outside Birmingham in early May. I'm planning to wear a dusty rose dress that is fairly dressy and tea length. Now I'm under the impression I need a hat. Right? Is ivory ok, or is that a faux pas and reserved for the bride?

I think the two that you just posted are a bit more appropriate than the one you have now. I think the one now would be ok for the civil ceremony, but you should go a little dressier for the swanky one!

I like @Foodnerd81 idea. The length is probably fine and you're pregnant so you want to be comfortable but I think you might feel a little under dressed up in the floral dress.

I would say wear a maxi, but maybe in a solid color or black? That way, it's a dressy one, not too casual or beachy. Not that the one you have is beachy, but it might not be dressy enough for "cocktail dress". That said I also agree with others that you can where whatever the heck you want. I'm 33 weeks and there is no way I'd be caught in some short "cocktail dress". Between the veins, the swelling, and the general discomfort in my own skin, this is simply not something that would be happening for me! ;)

I love the first one! I think that would be perfect.

But I still do think you could wear the original one and the only reason I'd be considering a new one is that you are immediate family. Also, it's not that hard to talk me into shopping for something new...:)

I usually think a solid color is a little dressier, so I think if you do decide to get something new, you could still do a maxi, just in a darker solid. Like this one, from the same site: http://www.newlook.com/shop/maternity/shop-department/maternity-navy-gathered-jersey-maxi-dress_245745841?icSort=Price+(Low+to+High)

@Foodnerd81: Hahaha!! I like it!! :-)

@highwire: @regberadaisy: I've attached a pic at the bottom in case this link doesn't work where you are:

http://www.newlook.com/shop/maternity/shop-department/maternity-black-and-blue-floral-belted-maxi-dress_272826709?productFind=search

It's not a particularly dressy maxi, although it is very pretty. It would be perfect for a pretty spring/summer wedding... which it turns out they are not having, despite having it in the spring/summer!!!

@Bluebonnet: I can't wear flats and a short dress because I'm small and overweight! It makes my legs look massive!!! Sob!!

I'm erring on the side of getting something more fancy and wearing this particuar maxi to the civil ceremony. It's a pain in the bottom though because we have to pay to travel there, pay to kennel our two dogs for 5 days, buy a present, buy two outfits.... I'm so, so grateful that my inlaws have offered to pay the £800 hotel bill for us! I'd rather not spend too much - and nice, fancy maternity dresses are so hard to find without the huge price tag! sob sob!!

If you weren't pregnant, I'd say go with something dressier. But one of the things I loved about being pregnant is that i could wear things that are more casual all the time and no one cared. Wear the maxi, just make it look more bohemian chic than outdoor festival with your accessories.

Honestly I'd just wear the maxi... whenever I've had an invite that asks for something specific, I always see loads of guests that don't adhere to it 100%. Besides, you're pregnant... Being comfortable is way more important. They're family, they'll understand :)
