My 1-year mark of TTC fell right at the point of my annual pap. So I went to my OB/GYN thinking I could talk about the next steps with her. She told me then that for some people it just takes longer than a year. I asked her to start the testing, with CD3 bloodwork and then began my search for an RE. I wasn't happy being told that, and I felt like I needed to take my fate into my own hands. I wasn't interested in continuing to "wait and see". 12 months of that was plenty.

I had to do one before my IVF, and I just did it with my RE. It was actually a good experience because he tested for a lot of things my OB doesn't.

I haven't been in a rush to get one done at the 1-year mark because I heard about the new guidelines, although I'm thinking of using the excuse of having an annual done to interview a new OB practice. There was a practice I went to once before TTC, and the thought of actually going there as a pregnant lady frightened me.

I am, but I'm due for one at the end of the month and I don't want to go back to my OB. I'll probably have my ND do it while seeing her for fertility stuff anyway.

@bluestriped bee: really! I was a little skeptical so I asked a few friends who are medical residents and they confirmed that this is the new standard of care they are taught!

Before TTC I was pretty good because I had to go in for a new Rx on my BC...

But my family doc has told me that for women who have had normal paps in the past, the new standard is every 3 years for paps... Which is fine by me!

I'm usually pretty good about my annual exams, but I cancelled my appointment this winter because I had just started seeing my RE and just didn't want to deal with another appointment. However, I recently rescheduled for the end of this month because my RE requires an up-to-date pap and certificate of health before starting IVF. I'm going back to my regular GYN for the appointment because my RE is all out of pocket, so I want as much covered by insurance as possible!

You know when we first started TTC, my ob/gyn said to me "Oh, the next time, I'll see you, you should be pregnant!" Woohoo! Cool! Happy dance!

Yeah, 17 months later after being referred to a fertility specialist, still not pregnant.

Before TTC, I was very good about getting my annual exam done, but with IF, I've been really bad about it. I don't think I had a pap smear since I started TTC. (Also, I wonder if my fertility dr should remind me because I stopped seeing my Ob/gyn when I started seeing her.)

I need to schedule one ASAP. I think I keep thinking that I'll get pregnant soon then months go by with BFNs and the last thing I am thinking about is pap smears.
