"(torn up nipples, poor latch, no idea how to integrate pumping, really no clue about what was normal despite reading all the books!)" <- this! That was me with DD1, bfing only lasted about 3 weeks, I thought I had it down but I constantly had scabbed and bleeding nipples, didn't know how to really/didn't want to NIP, the second time around was golden from the start, because I really educated myself about breastfeeding the entire time I was pregnant. I wish I had more time to pump during the day but otherwise, this time is great.

Yes. Like you said; at the very least, you are a little more prepared. I did lots of reading and research to prepare myself before I was even pregnant with Lorelei and went from having to heavily supplement to being able to EBF.

The first month of breast feeding #1 was really awful but it got better and we got to 9 months before I weaned.

Breastfeeding #2 has been really smooth! I had a few issues with oversupply at the beginning but nothing too bad!

Was the 2nd time around easier? LO is 7 months. We supplemented for the first 4 weeks, were EBF until 6 months and started supplementing then when I went back to work. BFing has been an amazing but difficult journey. I hope to BF in some capacity until a year or so.

If you had difficulties with number 1, was number 2 easier? I feel like I was so blindsided with BFing that even if I face the same challenges (torn up nipples, poor latch, no idea how to integrate pumping, really no clue about what was normal despite reading all the books!) that at least for next time I will have a better idea how to deal with those challenges. At least, I hope!
