@MrsCB: She does know about my struggle with TTC. I'm going to wait til her child is born and figure out if and how to bring it up with her.

@bluestriped bee: Does she know you're struggling with TTC? If you'd still consider the name, I'd text her and be like "that's our number one girl name too!" Just so she doesn't think you "stole" it. Especially if she does have a boy and then you have a girl. It's also my philosophy that I'm open about the names I love, and if someone else wants to choose them that's fine, but I'm not changing my choices.

We did have 2 full girl names picked out while we were struggling with IF, as we were hoping to have 2 daughters one day. Anna Zoey and Chloe Emma. And for the brief moment I thought we were having a girl (accidentally saw the email and misread it) I was relieved that we had already decided. Picking out a boy's name was NOT fun. DH hates most boy names and it was a real struggle to agree on one.

@brownie: You know, this reminds me that I have two cousins close in age with the same very uncommon name and it never seemed that strange to us.

My concern is probably more that a name I started liking years ago is now much trendier in general, which kind of ruins it for me.

No, for several reasons. A big one is that I won't let my heart go there yet.

Another reason, we can't use the only name I have had on my mind for years, since it is close to DH's sister's name.

Its also Jewish tradition to name kids after deceased family members. While I don't want anyone to die, this one one reason why its too early for us.

And, I don't feel there is any point in having the discussion until I'm safely pregnant and maybe not until we know what we have. DH is going to be a tough one name-wise, so I see no reason to have the argument yet :)

So, you may not like what I have to say, but unless the kids are born at the same time, I don't think you have to give up your names. They aren't gonna be in school together and one will be big name and one will be baby or little name. As it is, my 2 year old is still baby L to all of his friends. In my group of friends, the L names are popular.

We have ideas for names but nothing that is definite. DH says it's my decision when the time comes but he prefers shorter names since we have a long last name. I have always LOVED Elizabeth so I don't know if I will use it or not. I might would use the nn Ellie, which might satisfy DH. I do have a friend who used Elizabeth but I only see her a few times a year, so I am not too worried about using it for that reason.

I wanted to use my grandmother's name as a middle name but my sister used it for her daughter's middle name. I was really crushed when she did, particularly the way she approached it. She said she didn't remember me saying that I wanted to use it or she may have been more sensitive.

@bluestriped bee: I am sorry about your friend using your girl name...maybe it will work out. Or if you love it enough, I say use it anyway!

WE have names picked out and I share. I have 2 best friends pregnant and they know our names and if htey choose to use them than I'll be excited to know that their child has a name I love! Unless it is a family member or very close friend we will still use the names we picked. And you know if we love the name enough we will probably still use it!

Around Christmas a family member announced she was pregnant and it was one of those where here husband gave her a hug and bam you get a baby! I very openly called dibs on our girl name. We had been pregnant, mc'd and 9 months later were diagnosed with PCOS. I didn't care if it was crazy.

We were going to use a name for our boy that I made us change because it's just too popular.

And I also worry because my plan if I have a girl is to not use the exact name, but very close to my friend's girl name that she has picked out. She would use the nickname and I'd have a full name but still call her the nickname. In a normal situation I wouldn't do this, but the name is for my grandma so it's very special to me. And honestly, I think I'd still use it even if my friend had a girl first and named her kid that. I just don't feel like I should change my plans due to a friend, when our kids probably won't even go to the same school. And I'm especially not going to change my plans for a "what if" because she might never have a girl, she might just have boys. But I wouldn't mind having a boy so I don't have to worry about it anymore.

Ah, shit! (Sorry for cursing!) My really good friend just sent us a thank you card for the baby shower I attended a couple weeks ago. (It was a surprise baby shower and I was in charge of getting my friend and her DH to the party.) She's team green but she listed a girl's name and a boy's name in the thank you note. The girl's name is our #1 girl name. :( :( She's a really good friend so I know I shouldn't be upset but I am. Damnit!! I freakin' jinx myself with this thread. What a weird coincidence that I started this thread the same day I get the mail and open up the thank you note. I don't get our mail regularly.

I want to send her a text and be really excited that she told me the two names but I'm a lil sad. Boo! Think I need to get all my sad thoughts out of my head so I can support my good friend when her LO is due.

ETA: Horrible thought popped in my head that I shouldn't be thinking... Maybe they'll have a boy and we'll still have our chance to use the name. I did make a guess that she's having a boy. Ugh! I'm such a selfish friend.

@bluestriped bee: We had a few names that we had been batting around but nothing that really clicked... but then once we met the kids, we knew which names felt the most right.

Olive was such a little baby that the name felt right! Bee had mentioned it in passing before the baby was born, but I didn't feel a connection to the name until she was born 5 weeks early and was such a little peanut!

We've had names picked out for a long time, and boy were they hard for us to decide on. The girl name is becoming more popular so I worry that when the time finally comes we'll have to choose a different name. Sometimes I see the names pop up here as suggestions and I secretly hope they don't get used too often before I get my chance!

i don't tell people IRL because i don't want their opinions on them, not because i think they'd use them. i don't mind sharing them with bees though. our DS will have to have p*r*i*n*c*e (stars are to make it not pop in a search, or that's what i'm hoping  ) in front of his name but he'll go by seamus, middle name michael. our DD will be layla mackenzie. who knows, maybe we'll change them, but for now they make us feel like we have things to look forward to. i'd be sad if someone IRL used one of our names, but we don't have anyone close to us that's pregnant right now so i don't really worry about it.

We have names picked out. We started talking about names when we first started TTC and it took us a year to agree on one boy and one girl name. I do hope that no one in our close circle uses them before we get a chance. I'd be pretty sad if we had to choose another boys name. It's pretty special to us.

We have 4 full names pick out (2 girl & 2 boy names). We really like them. I have the first and the middle names picked out. I'm all set and ready to go... well except for the pregnant part.

I think this every time a new name thread is created. I think what happens if my names get too popular. Or if it gets taken by a close friend. I know I can't call dibs on my names because I'm not pregnant and won't be for at least a year. I guess I'm just hoping (secretly) that none of my friends pick our names. I used to be very vocal about our name choices and would tell everyone. Now, I don't.. I'm hoping those who I've told have forgotten. Although, DH and I have stopped having conversations about names because we know it's not going to happen this year. So it doesn't get brought up when I'm talking to my friends anyway.

I know there is nothing I can do about it. Just thinking out loud.
